We are looking for an experienced Principal Analyst – Asia Pacific Power & Renewables to join our dynamic and expanding Asia Pacific research team. The role is based in Singapore, although other locations can be considered for the right candidate. The successful candidate will join our cross-technology team and be responsible for leading power market analysis, thought leadership and client engagement, and supporting business and strategy development. He or she will use cutting-edge power dispatch models, engage industry executives on key market trends and forecasts, and deliver high-impact and original research to clients.   

Joining a global team of over 250 power and renewables experts, this role offers opportunities to contribute and lead high-impact analysis of latest policies and investments, hourly power prices and forecasts, power cost and technology trends, and support billion-dollar scale investment decisions. Leadership, communication and strategic insight will be important qualities to be successful in this role in order to coordinate between industry experts and executives from leading companies to develop insights and solutions to the most pressing challenges facing the power and renewables industry.   

The Principal Analyst will manage a team of experts across multiple offices to deliver high-quality, insightful reports, publications and presentations to influence clients’ business decisions across solar, wind, battery storage, gas and other technologies. Through research trips, client interactions and industry events they will have opportunity to build and maintain relationships with a range of clients and other leaders in the power & renewables industry.

This senior role includes industry-leading skills training and learning opportunities and is an ideal opportunity for an experienced professional to expand into a thought leadership and business strategy role in the power & renewables industry.

Main Responsibilities

  • Thought leadership and analysis of the Southeast Asia, Australia/New Zealand and wider Asia Pacific power & renewables markets

  • Guiding and managing the updating of regional power dispatch models and price forecasts

  • Guiding and managing the publication of country power market reports

  • People manager

About You

The role is ideal for a successful professional working in the Asia Pacific power & renewables industry, preferably with experience including quantitative and/or financial analysis.  We are looking for someone who has deep market experience and is also passionate about understanding the big picture trends in the energy industry, and is looking to take the next step in their career as a recognized power sector expert.  The successful candidate will be expected to have the following qualities, qualifications and experience:  

  • High interest and aptitude for market analysis and forecasting.  Relevant on-the-job training will be given to the selected candidate.

  • At least 6 years of relevant work experience in an analytical role in the power & renewables industry such as a utility, developer, consultancy, equipment manufacturer or investor.

  • A good understanding of power markets and policies, technology costs (LCOE, fuel markets etc.) and company strategies.

  • Enthusiasm, curiosity, willingness to expand knowledge and skills, the ability to tackle challenging questions and to rethink conventional wisdom.

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, science, economics, finance or other area. A graduate degree is preferred but not required.

  • Strong Excel and modelling skills. Relevant experience in power dispatch modelling is a major plus.

  • Strong organisation, planning and time management skills

  • Strong writing, communication and presentation skills

  • High attention to detail

  • Fluency in English is mandatory; fluency in another Asian language is a plus
