Overview of Role

The Power Origination Analyst will support the Head of APAC Power Trading and Origination in originating, analysing, structuring and executing power and energy transactions across the region. The role will take ownership of defined opportunities, lead selected counterparty conversations and develop market relationships. Based in Singapore, the role will report to the Head of APAC Power Trading and Origination and work closely with the Portfolio Manager, traders and relevant internal stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the APAC Power origination strategy and maintain an active pipeline of counterparties, projects and commercial opportunities.
  • Originate and evaluate opportunities across renewable energy, BESS, structured power supply, firming, environmental products, retail sleeving and demand response.
  • Take ownership of selected transactions and lead defined commercial discussions, including preparation, negotiation and agreement of term sheets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with generators, renewable developers, utilities, retailers, data centres, investors, advisers and financial counterparties.
  • Prepare market analysis, commercial proposals, term sheets, presentations, approval papers and transaction materials, clearly documenting commercial terms and risk allocation.
  • Support internal development of analytics and build, maintain and enhance models for transaction pricing, portfolio management and demand response analysis.
  • Provide the Portfolio Manager and traders with analytical support for portfolio management, hedging, risk assessment, optimisation and monetisation.
  • Support transaction execution from initial engagement through long-form documentation, internal approval and implementation.
  • Liaise closely with Risk and other internal stakeholders, including Legal, Credit, Finance, Tax, Compliance and Operations, and maintain clear tracking of actions and approvals.
  • Monitor APAC power market fundamentals, regulation and emerging market structures and translate developments into commercial and portfolio analysis.
  • Contribute to new desk capabilities and markets, including physical power, retail and sleeving arrangements, environmental markets and customer solutions.
  • Ensure all activities comply with Gunvor risk, conduct, compliance and governance requirements.
  • Perform other ad-hoc duties assigned by manager

Candidate’s Profile

The individual should have the following experience:

  • University Degree in Finance/ Economics /Engineering/ Mathematics preferred
  • Between 5 to 7 years of relevant industry experience within Gas, Renewables or Power company, a Trading house or a bank, developing, trading and risk managing a portfolio of renewable assts.
  • Good understanding of wholesale power markets, market fundamentals, physical and financial products, and renewable energy and storage transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating term sheets and commercial terms and supporting or leading transaction execution.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including experience developing and/or maintaining models for power transactions, portfolio analysis or demand response.
  • Commercially minded and proactive, with the ability to develop external relationships and take ownership of workstreams.
  • Fluent in English, with strong verbal and written skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation and influencing skills.
  • Highly numerate, strong analytical, organizational and communication skills;
  • Team player, strong collaboration skills
  • Able to handle high levels of pressure and stress and work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
