Build and own the research platform for a systematic commodities trading team, spanning backtesting, trading applications, data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and production operations. Responsibilities include full-stack development, data engineering, Azure and hybrid infrastructure, Linux and Docker administration, monitoring, incident response, security, disaster recovery, and supporting the transition from daily to intraday trading systems.
About the role
We are hiring a Platform Engineer to build and own the research platform behind a systematic commodities team: the software, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure that carry strategies from data to research to live trading. The role is roughly 70% software development (applications, trading systems, data engineering) and 30% cloud and infrastructure. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role reporting directly to the Portfolio Manager. The platform is currently cloud-based and expected to evolve, including toward hybrid on-premises capacity and intraday systems.

The platform is currently cloud-based and expected to evolve, including toward hybrid on-premises capacity and intraday systems.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve the research platform: backtesting and simulation services, signal and portfolio pipelines, and the tooling researchers use daily
- Develop internal applications end-to-end, including risk, monitoring, and trading systems: services, APIs, and front ends
- Own data engineering end-to-end: model retrievals, exchange feeds, database loads, storage design, and the datasets research depends on
- Build continuous delivery and the path from research code to production, supporting the move from daily to intraday operation
- Own the cloud infrastructure: identity and access, networking, compute, storage, and cost
- Run the production platform: Linux fleet, containers, orchestration runtime, monitoring, alerting, and incident response
- Establish resilience and security foundations: disaster recovery, secrets, certificates, endpoint management, access reviews
- Support the evaluation and design of a hybrid extension with on-premises capacity
Requirements
- 5+ years in software or platform engineering, including sole or small-team ownership of production systems
- Strong Python as the primary development language, with software engineering fundamentals: design, testing, and the full development lifecycle from requirements to deployment
- Full-stack development experience: services, APIs, and front ends
- Data engineering in production: pipelines, storage design, and a workflow orchestrator (Prefect, Airflow, Dagster, or similar)
- Depth in a major cloud provider, ideally Azure; hybrid or on-premises experience
- Linux administration and production Docker experience
- Practical security engineering and networking fundamentals; experience running on-call for systems with strict deadlines and uptime requirements
- Ability to operate independently, with sound judgement on production change; an entrepreneurial self-starter who identifies and closes gaps unprompted
Preferred qualifications
- Experience at a trading firm or asset manager; exposure to research platforms or backtesting infrastructure
- Financial market or futures reference data
- Rust, particularly for performance-critical components
- Infrastructure as code (Pulumi or Terraform)
- macOS fleet management; SIEM experience
