GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Markets Product Owner Asia is a member of the Strategy & Business Operations Singapore team and shall endeavour to fulfil the ambitions defined and outlined for the team by Head of Strategy & Business Operations Singapore. He/she shall ensure active risk management and meet all regulatory and internal compliance expectations relating to the role.
As Product Owner, the incumbent shall collaborate closely with product managers and business owners to understand client and market needs, evolve product roadmap (in particular cross asset structured products and derivatives) in line with overall business model and enable growth opportunities. He/she shall develop cases and define product features in conjunction with key stakeholders, managing the front-to-back product implementation, testing and lifecycle from conception through release, all whilst ensuring maximum value with minimum waste. He / she would continue to own variations / features for the product on an ongoing basis by proactively researching and analysing the market, users, and latest trends in the industry to constantly evolve each product roadmap accordingly.
The incumbent is welcome to have regular dialogues with various Front representatives and Senior Management (i.e. Group Heads, Senior Client Partners) to be kept abreast of client needs/demands. This will help to ensure that products and services offered to clients remain relevant and competitive. The incumbent shall also build highly effective relationships across the Bank to maintain and improve knowledge of the business and its latest products and services to optimise service to clients.
KEY FEATURES and accountabilities
People Management
- Contribute to the strengthening of the team spirit and the fostering of a collaborative work environment
- Motivate and share feedback to other team members to improve overall performance
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate closely with product managers and business owners to understand client and market needs, evolving the product roadmap in line with overall business model and enable growth opportunities
- Develop cases and define product features based on inputs from business owner and business representatives
- Continuously prioritise feature/story with business owners based on business cases and implementation costs
- Understand the system implications of the new product and identify roadblocks and dependencies with other features
- Provide direction to agile teams to ensure work focuses on items with maximum value aligned with the overall product strategy
- Ensure regular and effective communication and consultation with relevant stakeholders throughout the various stages of the product life cycle
- Regularly consult with Front representatives and Senior Management to be kept updated of clients’ needs/demands and take appropriate measures to fulfil them, where relevant
Product Management
- Understand the front to back flow of product issuance of securitized products as well as OTC across all asset classes.
- Work with various risk functions to identify, assess and mitigate potential risks associated with the new product
- Collaborate with cross functional stakeholders (i.e. IT, accounting, operation, risk teams) to understand the system implications of the new product. Specify requirements, identify and resolve roadblocks
- Prepare and maintain documentation related to new product implementation
- Participate in testing and quality assurance process, create testing protocol, document testing results and collect signoff of test cases
- Ensure the new product is operational ready for distribution (i.e. client & product suitability checks)
- Continuously evaluate and improve the process, identifying areas for efficiency gains and implementing best practices.
Business Management
- Lead and manage the front-to-back product lifecycle from conception through release, amongst others, straddling trading requirements, sales / business requirements and execution efficiency
- Research and analyse the market and users, follow the latest trends in the industry to constantly evolve each product roadmap accordingly
- Communicate team and product metrics to stakeholders
- Provide inputs/updates for the various management committees (as required) including delivering/articulating complex technical concepts in a straightforward and concise manner
Regulatory Responsibilities &/OR Risk Management
- Meet all legal, regulatory and compliance standards/requirements
- Regular assessment of the function’s practices to mitigate associated risks arising out of and relating to the said function
- Demonstration of appropriate values and behaviours including but not limited to standards on honesty and integrity, due care and diligence, fair dealing (treating customers fairly), management of conflicts of interest, competence and continuous development, adequate risk management, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

Professional and Technical
- Relevant higher educational and professional background with 8-10 years of relevant working experience in the financial industry
- Good knowledge of financial products in particular cross asset structured products and derivatives, especially the structuring, manufacturing and distribution of such products
- Good understanding of market risk management and representation of financial products in risk management systems
- Experience in Advisory and Sales processes, for both private clients and institutional clients
- Experience in agile project methodologies and framework (e.g. SAFe, scrum, Kanban)
- Experience in managing product deliveries across work streams with varying timelines, priorities, complexities
- Strong ability to deal with ambiguity, especially when dealing with new products where pilot launches might require some manual processes to start with
- Strong commercial judgement, business acumen and broad understanding of the financial market and products
Regulatory (where applicable)
- Familiar with regulatory expectations and requirements in Singapore and Hong Kong
