The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School’s primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.

Professor John Chambers is the Toh Kian Chui Professor of Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Programme Director of the Population and Global Health Research Programme at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), Nanyang Technological University. He is also the Chief Scientific Officer for the National Precision Medicine Programme. His research programme aims to identify the molecular mechanisms underlying diabetes and premature cardiovascular disease in Asian populations, and to translate these findings into new approaches for improved prevention and early detection of these major chronic diseases.

His research team is shortlisting a Manager (Database Engineer) is to manage the SG100K / SSCC database. The shortlisted candidate will be one of the key point of contact for access to the SG100K / SSCC data management platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements and implement effective data management strategies aligned with organisational objectives.

  • Analyse business and research needs, identify risks and gaps, and ensure data processes support data-driven decision-making.

  • Collaborate with IT and end-users to implement and enhance data ingestion and egression processes, including user access management and data extraction workflows.

  • Liaise with database vendors to ensure timely software upgrades, security patches, performance optimisation, and capacity expansion ahead of new data uploads.

  • Monitor and optimise database performance, proactively addressing system issues to maintain data integrity, efficiency, and scalability.

  • Partner with researchers and vendors to design and deliver automated and cloud-based tools that improve research efficiency and usability.

  • Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements by working closely with IT and the Data Protection Officer to implement robust security controls.

  • Strengthen data security and risk management, including audit trails, incident response planning, regular risk assessments, and stakeholder communication on compliance updates.

Key Competencies and Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Bioinformatics preferred.

  • Minimum 6 years of related experience with relational databases in production environments.

  • Proficiency in SQL, PostgreSQL internals, and Linux systems

  • Familiarity with programming languages (Python, Go, Java, C++)

  • Experience with configuration management and orchestration tools (Ansible, Terraform)

  • Excellent trouble shooting, organization skills, and problem solving skills are also required as well as the ability to work in a team environment

  • Highly motivated, reliable and creative. Possess the ability to work independently and effectively with research details.

  • Have strong organizational and effective communication skills.

  • Self-motivated and pro-active attitude.
