[What the role is]
[LTA-ITCD] CYBERSECURITY ENGINEER (1-YR TEMPORARY CONTRACT)[What you will be working on]
The organisation is looking for a hands-on Cyber Engineer to join the cybersecurity team, with a primary focus on Akamai Web Application Firewall (WAF) operations. The candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operational health of the Akamai environment, supporting the expansion of coverage to additional internal systems, and helping the organisation mature its security posture through newly enabled capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Akamai Operations
The candidate will serve as the technical lead for Akamai services, working closely with various internal stakeholders and contractors to ensure the smooth delivery of Akamai services and timely follow-up on security incidents and alerts.
The candidate will also provide onboarding support for new systems being brought onto Akamai, and offer consultancy to project teams on Akamai-related matters.
Security Capability Rollout and Evaluation
The candidate will support the rollout and evaluation of new Akamai security features, including antimalware scanning, AI Firewall, and API Security. This involves hands-on tuning of policies and rules, conducting impact assessments, and working with stakeholders to balance security effectiveness with operational continuity.
Reporting and Stakeholder Coordination The candidate will prepare regular operational reports and security metrics for internal stakeholders and management, and serve as the coordination point between project teams and Akamai’s vendor.
Documentation
The candidate will maintain and improve operational documentation, including runbooks, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and configuration guides, to ensure operational knowledge is well-captured and accessible to the broader team.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have at least 2–4 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity operations or web application security, with direct experience working with Akamai products being strongly preferred. Candidates with equivalent experience on comparable WAF or CDN platforms such as Cloudflare, Imperva, or F5, and a demonstrated ability to ramp up on Akamai, will also be considered.
[What we are looking for]
• Knowledge in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related technical discipline
• Possess working knowledge of web application security concepts, including the OWASP Top 10, common attack patterns such as SQLi, XSS, and CSRF, and how WAF rules are structured to detect and mitigate them. Familiarity with API security principles and how API gateways and WAFs interact is an advantage, particularly given the scope of the API Security capability work.
•Experience with log analysis and data extraction, and proficiency in at least one scripting language such as Python or Bash for automation and data processing tasks would be an asset.
• The candidate should also possess relevant experience with incident management processes, including documentation of timelines, root cause analysis, and after-action reviews.
•Self-starter who is able to manage their own workload with minimal supervision, and should be able to communicate clearly and professionally with both internal stakeholders and external vendors.
