JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Electrical Design (PCB layout) engineer for optical transceivers is responsible for creating the physical layout of printed circuit boards (PCBs) used in these devices. This involves translating high-level circuit designs into a physical representation, ensuring compliance with electrical and optical requirements, and optimizing for performance, manufacturability, and cost.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Translate high-level design into physical layout: The engineer converts schematic designs into physical layouts on the PCB.
  • Ensure electrical and optical compliance: This includes adhering to design rules, impedance matching, signal integrity, and optical performance requirements.
  • Optimize for performance, manufacturability, and cost: The layout should achieve optimal performance, be easily and economically manufactured, and meet any cost targets.
  • Work with cross-functional teams: Collaborate with electrical, optical, and mechanical engineers to ensure a seamless design and manufacturing process.
  • Document designs: Create drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Troubleshoot and debug: Identify and resolve any issues that arise during the layout or manufacturing process.
  • Stay current with industry trends: Keep abreast of the latest technologies and design practices.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong understanding of PCB design principles: This includes knowledge of signal integrity, impedance matching, and power distribution.
  • Familiarity with optical transceiver technology: Understanding the electrical and optical requirements of transceivers is crucial.
  • Proficiency with PCB design software: Experience with tools like Altium, Cadence, or similar is expected.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: The ability to identify and resolve issues is essential.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills: Working effectively with cross-functional teams is crucial.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is typically required.
  • Relevant experience in PCB layout design, preferably with optical transceivers.
  • Experience with high-speed digital and analog design is often beneficial.
