Position Summary:

Illumina Laboratory Services (ILS) is seeking a Lab Specialist to join our Singapore-based clinical genomics laboratory. This is a hands-on, laboratory-based role at the cutting edge of clinical genomics, supporting the delivery of high-quality genomic testing to patients across the region.

In this role, you will perform a range of laboratory techniques in compliance with ISO 15189 quality standards, including DNA extraction, DNA quantification, library preparation, and next-generation sequencing using the NovaSeq X Plus platform. You will work with a combination of automated workflows (e.g., Hamilton STAR systems) and manual bench-top assays, gaining broad exposure to modern clinical laboratory operations. You will also play an important role in maintaining a safe, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.

This position is suited to someone with a proactive approach, strong technical capabilities and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, customer focused setting. Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests to defined quality standards and within established turnaround times.
  • Handle, process, and store clinical samples in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring accurate labeling and traceability.
  • Accurately record laboratory activities, results, and observations in laboratory records, logs, and electronic systems. Escalate deviations, errors, or nonconformities as required.
  • Maintain and organize inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with coordinating laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance; keeping records up to date.
  • Responsible for laboratory organization, including but not limited to ensuring labs are clean and organized, oversight of cold storage units and lab access procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to Health & Safety (H&S) requirements, risk assessments, and biosafety procedures always.
  • Follow all approved Work Instructions, SOPs, and Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, ensuring compliance with ISO 15189.
  • Participate in training, competency assessments, audits, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to achieve laboratory goals while maintaining individual productivity and quality standards.
  • Maintain patient and data confidentiality in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements.

Requirements

  • Experience working in or supervising a wet lab or equivalent containing standard equipment (liquid handling robots, safety cabinets, chemical handling and disposal, centrifuges etc.)
  • Conducting laboratory work for Illumina’s library prep and sequencing
