Junior Cyber Engineer - Defensive Security

In 2023, Immersive launched Cyber Million - an initiative to enable people from all backgrounds and skillsets to utilise their transferable skills to secure their first role in cyber security.

At that time we hired a Junior Cyber Engineer through that very programme and they have absolutely thrived here quickly becoming a valued and productive team member - therefore we have a NEW opportunity within our Cyber team for a Junior Cyber Engineer to join our Product team via the Cyber Million programme.

If successful, you will write content for labs on our game-changing platform; these will focus on IT/Computing and Defensive Cyber.

This is an exciting opportunity to start your career in cyber security. You will be provided with supportive mentoring throughout this role by our experienced and dedicated cyber engineers and the wider Immersive team. 

ALL you have to do to be considered for the role is;

A) Be based in Bristol or a nearby reasonable commutable distance (we will prioritise local applicants for interview due to our pledge to support the local tech community)

B) Register an account on  our CyberMillion platform https://cybermillion.immersivelabs.online/register

C) Complete the Defensive CyberSecurity Pathway. If you're completely new to cybersecurity you may wish to complete the optional Fundamentals Pathway first, as this will help you with the basics first.
D) Once you have completed the Defensive Pathway, you can apply for the role on the "Jobs" tab on Cyber Million.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Work with the technical teams to learn how to create labs and content.

  • Work with the broader cyber content team to test and validate lab content based on user feedback.

  • Researching cybersecurity, technology and technical concepts to understand the learnings and translate them to a non-technical audience.

  • Collaborating on exercises & content creation based on research

  • Support various events such as Capture the Flag & Crisis Exercising

  • Produce multi-format content utilising various teaching methods; written, exercises, questions and gamification

You should apply if you have:

  • Completed the Defensive Security Operations career path in Cyber Million - this is essential as will give you knowledge of core Defensive Security concepts such as Incident Response, digital forensics, and vulnerability management. https://cybermillion.immersivelabs.online/register

  • Clear, accurate and articulate English writing skills

  • Desire to learn and develop your skills

  • Be able to write technical content in simple, non-technical language

  • Ability to work both as part of a dynamic team and individually

  • Based in Bristol and able to be in the office 2-3 times a week
