The General Account Investment Team at Manulife is a dynamic and forward-thinking team; dedicated to delivering sustainable and superior risk-adjusted return with unique competitive edges. Our team manages a diverse portfolio across multiple asset classes, including public and private markets, alternative investments, and ESG-integrated strategies.
We are seeking a motivated and analytical investment professional to join our investment team. This role will support tactical asset allocation, investment strategy implementation, portfolio monitoring, and research. The individual will work closely with internal stakeholders and external managers to ensure effective execution of investment decisions, while also incorporating insurance liability considerations and the local risk-based capital (RBC) regime into portfolio management.
Position Responsibilities:
Investment Monitoring and Analysis
Monitor the General Accounts Investments’ portfolio performance and conduct regular performance attribution and risk analysis.
Incorporate insurance liability characteristics and the local RBC regime into investment analysis and portfolio decisions.
Engage and coordinate with outsourced asset managers to discuss performance, portfolio positioning, and market developments.
Macroeconomic research and Asset Allocation
Conduct research on macroeconomic and market trends to support Tactical Asset Allocation (TAA) and strategic investment views. Support the development and implementation of Tactical Asset Allocation (TAA) strategies.
Portfolio Reporting and Management
Assist in preparing investment committee materials, reports, and presentations. Contribute to the monitoring of investment guidelines, exposures, and risk limits. Management of fund allocation across portfolios and asset managers Shared responsibility for investment transaction documentation & administration. Collaborate with colleagues across functions to ensure smooth execution of investment strategies.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and intellectual curiosity, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related discipline; progress towards CFA, FRM, or equivalent qualification is an advantage.
2–5 years of relevant experience in investments, research, insurance asset management, investment reporting, or related fields preferred.
Strong understanding of insurance liability profiles and familiarity with the local Risk-Based Capital (RBC) regime.
Solid analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with portfolio construction, asset allocation concepts, and risk management tools.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Bloomberg/Refinitiv; programming knowledge (e.g., Python, R, VBA) a plus.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage internal teams and external managers effectively.
Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
