Department: Digital Automation Solutions Team
Project Title: Smart Warehouse Digital Twin and Intelligent Receiving Automation
Micron Fab10 is advancing digital automation through two key initiatives: warehouse modelling and receiving automation. This internship unites these efforts, bringing together computer vision, simulation, and workflow management in a single project.
Project ECHO eliminates manual receiving processes by applying OCR and computer vision-based document recognition. The intern will use FlexSim to build a digital twin of the F10 smart warehouse, drive data-driven layout decisions, and optimize workflows to support long-term operational planning.
Scope:
Deliverables: Functional computer vision module for receiving automation, a web-based workflow tracking interface, and a FlexSim digital twin model of the F10 warehouse with optimization findings
Impact of Project: This project provides insights into how digital automation and simulation can improve data accuracy, workflow visibility, and warehouse planning decisions. Outcomes from the project may inform future automation strategies and long-term capacity planning at Fab 10
Skillset Required: Proficiency in Python, simulation tools (FlexSim or equivalent), systems modelling, computer vision, web development (HTML/CSS/JS or equivalent), and data analysis. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
Course of Interests: Computer Science, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Systems Engineering
Duration: At least 3 months of internship on a full-time basis.

Project ECHO eliminates manual receiving processes by applying OCR and computer vision-based document recognition. The intern will use FlexSim to build a digital twin of the F10 smart warehouse, drive data-driven layout decisions, and optimize workflows to support long-term operational planning.
- The intern will develop and refine a computer vision pipeline to automate recognition and validation of incoming material documentation, replacing manual data entry at receiving stations.
- The intern will model the F10 warehouse environment in FlexSim to simulate material flows and identify optimization opportunities across storage, retrieval, and transport operations.
Scope:
- Develop and improve computer vision models for document and label recognition in the receiving workflow.
- Build and iterate on a web-based interface for receiving workflow tracking and operational visibility.
- Model the F10 smart warehouse in FlexSim as a digital twin for optimisation analysis, covering layout, material flow, and throughput scenarios.
