We are looking for a motivated, decisive, practical and detail-oriented Indirect Tax Specialist to join our team. Our Tax team makes sure that we operate policies and governance procedures that seek to ensure we comply with tax laws in every territory we do business. With a high level of autonomy and responsibility, you’ll work across teams at Wise to manage and oversee our Indirect Tax Compliance function.

Your mission

  • Prepare indirect tax returns, which includes Singapore, Australia and other key territories within the APAC region. This aspect will also require some preparation of Wise Indirect Tax returns globally from time to time. This involves working with other members of the finance team to extract the relevant data, ensuring processes are fully documented, controls are operating effectively, returns are reviewed and reconciled back to financial data.
  • Eventually take ownership of the overall Indirect Tax reporting process for relevant returns across the APAC region. This includes adhering to controls, managing risks and judgement schedules as well as managing the end to end process with external advisors.
  • Support the rest of the Indirect Tax team in helping the business to manage and optimise the overall Indirect Tax positions of the group. This may include ad hoc technical research, leading technical projects, identifying and suggesting improvements to existing processes and liaising with external advisors to ensure tax requirements for any new geographies or product are properly understood, captured and reported, and also communicated.
  • Develop strong relationships with the accounting team, as well as financial controllers, to ensure the impact of Indirect Taxes are understood and reflected in the financial statements of the business.
  • There is also the opportunity to work with the others within the Indirect Tax team / those in the Regional Tax team to support broader Indirect Tax consulting opportunities depending on the successful candidate’s desire and capacity. 

This role will give you the opportunity to

  • Own your own path to success - you’ll have a high level of autonomy and responsibility to participate/lead cross team projects.
  • Work in an international Tax & Finance Team and learn a lot about the tax around the world, fintech and driving financial sustainability of a fast growing company.

Qualifications

About you

  • You have at least 3 years indirect tax experience with either big 4 or in-house and have a solid understanding of APAC VAT/GST and cross border principles - financial services indirect taxation desirable but not essential.
  • Able to understand and support in the design of processes and controls to manage compliance obligations and risks associated with large volumes of complex data.
  • You are a self-starter who is able to organise your own time and work but you also have the ability to work with and influence stakeholders on indirect tax matters.
  • You take ownership of complex new areas and are able to solve problems with limited guidance, assuming responsibility and using your own judgement in terms of decision making.
  • You demonstrate attention to details and are comfortable dealing with large volumes of complex information.

Qualifications

  • Accounting or Tax Qualification relevant to the APAC market.
