Job Description SummaryThe HVDC Portfolio Technical Director (PTD) provides the overarching technical strategy, leadership, and integrated direction for the HVDC project portfolio, with a dedicated focus on the APAC region. The PTD is accountable for the quality, coordination for on-time delivery, competitiveness, and technical robustness of the HVDC solution. This role serves as the primary technical interface for customers and internal GSI teams, ensuring that engineering execution—from design through to site commissioning—is cohesive, effective, and compliant with all requirements across the region.

Job Description

Regional Technical Strategy & Integration:

  • Serve as the key technical interface for the APAC region, working closely with GSI internal teams and representing the technical solution to regional customers.
  • Define and establish technical strategies in collaboration with the HVDC PDG. Work in close partnership with the PDG NPI and NTI teams to ensure region technical strategies and market demand are aligned with product roadmaps.
  • Direct and integrate activities across multiple technical workstreams, ensuring the solutions meet APAC project goals and strategic plans.
  • Champion of "Return of Experience" (REX) to translate regional site-based lessons learned into improved design standards.
  • Ensure all APAC engineering activities remain consistent with operating objectives.
  • Lead the coordination and engineering schedules review for the HVDC portfolio in APAC with PDG, GEC team, ensuring timelines are realistic and milestones are achieved.
  • Close monitor of software (SW) delivery and manage the effectiveness of design implementation.
  • Verifying design consistency against contract requirements across the portfolio.
  • Proactively identify, monitor, and mitigate technical risks and opportunities.

Engineering Schedule & Delivery Oversight:

  

Project Execution:

  • Review engineering schedules in close collaboration with PEDs and PEMs to ensure that technical milestones support commissioning timelines and contract requirements.
  • Oversee site-based technical activities, providing guidance to field engineering, C&C teams and acting as the final point of escalation for complex commissioning issues.
  • Act as the technical lead for commissioning-related challenges. Facilitate the effective, timely resolution of technical issues encountered during site activities to ensure successful project execution and handover.

 

Required Qualifications:

▪   15+ years of extensive HVDC engineering experience across various disciplines.

▪    Proven experience working as Project Engineer Director or similar role, expertise in leading and managing complex project portfolios

▪   With a good understanding of all technical disciplines and their part in the overall HVDC solution. Demonstrated expertise in system integration, requirements management, and technical interface management. Commissioning experience is an added advantage.

▪   Strong understanding of the APAC HVDC market landscape. Ability to navigate complex regional stakeholder environments and drive alignment between global standards and local site requirements.

▪   Exceptional influencing and relationship-building skills. Ability to communicate complex technical messages succinctly. Proven track record of accountability and decision-making in fast-paced environments.

▪ High level of cultural competence, sensitivity, and the willingness to travel as required.
