YOUR CHALLENGE

General description

The Global Products & Solutions (GPS) Risk Manager (Asia) is a key member of the GPS Control Framework & Risk Advisory team responsible for supporting the risk management activities of GPS in Asia.

In this role, the primary responsibilities encompass oversight of all GPS products, services, and processes in relation to reputational, operational and/or non-financial risks in Asia. This includes identifying and assessing any associated risks as well as providing innovative solutions to mitigate them if/where relevant.

Other aspects also include developing, maintaining, optimising, implementing and conducting effective risk governance and controls framework according to regulatory expectations and internal policies. Further, the individual shall provide support pertaining to regular internal reviews and internal controls which comprise control design, tool administrative matters as well as test executions.

The GPS Risk Manager (Asia) reports to the Global Head of GPS Control Framework & Risk Advisory.

People management

  • Contribute to the strengthening of the team spirit and the fostering of a collaborative work environment

Client management (internal & external)

  • Maintain a continuous and collaborative relationship with the relevant stakeholders and ensure they receive clear guidance and information on key risk topics
  • Provide risk-related advisory (i.e. risk analysis, mitigation, etc.) for new products, services, and projects
  • Act as GPS liaison for all risk-related matters in Asia (i.e. operational incidents, internal audit, risk and control self-assessment, etc.)
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to analyse, identify and develop new solutions to optimise/ automate control processes with a focus on risk management and mitigation measures
  • Conduct trainings on risk related topics

Business management

  • Support the team’s strategic objectives and operational goals, driving business outcomes and results
  • Establish and maintain the GPS Asia risk governance and controls framework in accordance to the GPS Risk Management governance, ensuring that such controls meet regulatory requirements and internal policy guidelines and that they are reviewed regularly for effectiveness and consistency
  • Support the control design and administration of the internal control tool (e.g. creating new controls, editing existing controls and assigning roles as required), including the performance of various internal controls GPS centrally
  • Proactively identify and assess key operational and business risks and, if/where relevant, propose solutions to manage/mitigate identified risks
  • Monitor the development of the regulatory landscape, industry trends and global minimum standards and conduct impact analyses, if/where relevant for GPS in Asia, in close collaboration with Legal and Compliance teams
  • Conduct regular process reviews as required for GPS in Asia while ensuring effective risk management and operational scalability
  • Provide inputs/updates for the various management committees which may include GPS representation at various forums
  • Identify opportunities to enhance functional efficiency and productivity, proposing process improvements and workflow optimisations, where relevant/appropriate
  • Provide other adhoc business/risk management support as required

Regulatory responsibilities &/or risk management

  • Establish, promote and maintain effective risk prevention, mitigation, and response mechanisms for GPS in Asia
  • Meet all legal, regulatory, and compliance standards/requirements
  • Adhere to the standards and expectations outlined in the relevant user manuals and guidelines
  • Demonstrate appropriate values and behaviours including, but not limited to standards on honesty and integrity, due care and diligence, fair dealing (treating customers fairly), management of conflicts of interest, competence and continuous development, adequate risk management, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Professional & technical

  • 7 years or more of private banking knowledge and experience, specifically in a risk advisory/control/ compliance role
  • Relevant higher educational and professional background
  • Familiar with investment products and services, along with associated risks
  • Strong commercial judgement, business acumen and a broad understanding of the financial markets and products

Regulatory

  • Familiarity with Singapore and/or Hong Kong regulatory expectations and requirements
  • Understanding of cross border rules and regulations
