Job Summary 

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Commercial leader to join our Global Design, Construction and Procurement [GDC+P] team. This strategic role sits within our central commercial function, operating across all global regions to drive commercial excellence, consistency, and value throughout the lifecycle of our projects.  

 

Reporting to the Commercial Director, Global Design and Construction, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and managing best-in-class commercial processes, systems, and strategies. You will play a key role in ensuring robust governance, optimising project commercial performance, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across our global data center portfolio. The position works closely with other internal project teams, including Design, Construction, Procurement (including Major Capital Equipment (MCE) Purchasing), Finance, PMO, Legal and Corporate Development.  

 

This position sits within the Equinix Global Design and Construction team who are responsible for delivering over 100+ projects globally per year, in excess $3Bn annual capex.  

Preferred locations London, Sydney, Singapore, Amsterdam and Dublin however we would consider applications from other locations where Equinix have a presence  

 

Responsibilities

  • Commercial benchmarking: Lead and manage Equinix’s comprehensive commercial benchmarking activities across the entire global portfolio, identifying cost efficiencies, best practices, and areas for improvement

  • Global reference design management: Manage the commercial aspects of our global reference design, ensuring cost-effectiveness, buildability, and alignment with commercial objectives

  • KPI tracking and reporting: Maintain and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for critical commercial elements, including budget accuracy, cash flow forecasting, and cost control. Provide regular, insightful reports to senior leadership

  • Lessons Learned Management: Establish and manage a central repository for commercial lessons learned from all projects, ensuring these insights are captured, disseminated, and integrated into future commercial strategies and processes

  • Global process and playbook management: Own, develop, and continuously improve global commercial processes, playbooks, and standard operating procedures for the end-to-end lifecycle of our data center projects. Ensure consistent application across all regions

  • Value Engineering (VE) Management: Oversee the global Value Engineering program, managing the process for identifying, evaluating, and implementing VE initiatives across all projects to optimise cost and enhance value without compromising quality or schedule

  • Commercial Consultant Supply Chain Management: Manage the global supply chain for commercial consultants, including conducting Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and implementing a robust scorecard process to track and manage consultant performance

  • Commercial System & Tool Adoption: Drive the adoption and effective utilisation of commercial systems and tools across regions, ensuring data integrity and efficient process execution

  • Global Commercial Risk Management: Manage our standardised framework for identifying, assessing, and mitigating commercial risks across all our projects. This includes reviewing program wide risks and leading workshops to address key risks

  • Contract Standardisation and Template Development: Work with legal and regional procurement teams to standardise global contract templates and key commercial terms to improve consistency and reduce legal exposure

  • Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs on global commercial processes, tools, and best practices to regional commercial teams, fostering a consistent skill set and understanding across the organisation

 

This role offers a fantastic opportunity for a driven commercial professional to drive the commercial strategy within the GDC+P function and contribute to the continued success of our data center development pipeline.  

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field

  • Extensive experience in a senior commercial role within the construction or infrastructure sector, with a strong preference for data center, mission-critical, or large-scale industrial projects

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities, with a proven track record of influencing across diverse cultures and regions

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing global commercial processes, playbooks, and governance frameworks

  • Demonstrable expertise in commercial benchmarking, cost control, budget management, and cash flow forecasting

  • Experience managing consultant frameworks and performance

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Proficiency in commercial management software and tools
