Southeast Asia Institutional Client Business Description

The Southeast Asia Institutional Client Business (ICB) partners with the region’s largest and most sophisticated asset owners, including sovereign wealth funds, central banks, and pension funds, to understand their evolving needs and translate them into commercial opportunities for BlackRock. We deliver the full breadth of the firm’s capabilities across public markets, ETFs, and alternatives, underpinned by market‑leading technology, data, and risk analytics.

Based in Singapore, the team covers Southeast Asia and collaborates closely with colleagues across APAC and globally to deliver the full breadth of BlackRock’s capabilities to institutional investors.

Job Purpose/Background:

BlackRock Southeast Asia Institutional Client Business is looking for an Associate to support relationship management and business development efforts with key institutional clients across Southeast Asia. The role focuses on deepening commercial engagement with existing clients while supporting new business opportunities through a strong understanding of client needs, industry trends, and BlackRock’s investment platform.

Reporting to a senior member of the Southeast Asia ICB team, the successful candidate will work closely with regional leads and a broad range of internal partners to support the growth of the Institutional business. Responsibilities span client strategy and execution, account management, and ongoing business development, requiring close collaboration across global teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Relationship Management

  • Support the execution and ongoing management of key institutional client relationships in partnership with senior team members.

  • Respond to client queries in a timely, professional, and accurate manner, addressing product and investment-related requests while understanding each client’s unique objectives and constraints.

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across the platform - including investment teams, COO, legal & compliance, contracting, and operations - to deliver superior client outcomes.

  • Leverage BlackRock’s tools and analytics to proactively identify assets at risk and propose alternative solutions aligned with client objectives.

  • Maintain disciplined use of client relationship management systems to document client interactions, activity, and opportunities.
     

Business Development

  • Utilize internal and external resources to develop insights on markets, clients, industry trends, and competitors.

  • Provide analysis and information to support ongoing business development initiatives within the Institutional segment.

  • Partner senior relationship managers to drive client engagement through the delivery of timely market insights tailored to institutional objectives, regulatory frameworks, and evolving market conditions
     

Experience/Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in asset management, financial services, or a related industry.

  • Demonstrated track record in relationship management, preferably covering institutional clients.

  • Strong understanding of the Institutional investor landscape and familiarity with Southeast Asia markets.

  • Solid investment knowledge across a broad range of asset classes, including traditional, alternative Investment products and ETFs; awareness of key issues affecting institutional portfolios.

  • Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear insights and recommendations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build credible and influential relationships internally and externally.

  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, manage complexity, and address challenging client requirements with increasing independence.

  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with the ability to leverage global resources effectively.

  • Client-focused and self-motivated individual, with a commitment to excellence.

  • Intellectual curiosity and a genuine interest in remaining a “student of the markets.”

  • Proficiency in additional Asian languages- Thai/ Bahasa is an advantage.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
