POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an Epoxy Engineer – Specialist with deep expertise in epoxy materials, formulations, and dispensing processes used in optical and photonic devices. This role is critical to ensuring high reliability, yield, and performance of optical assemblies through robust adhesive selection, development, and process optimization.
The role will work closely with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and global operations teams, and act as a technical authority for epoxy-related challenges across product lines.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Materials & Process Development
Develop, evaluate, and optimize epoxy formulations for optical and photonic applications (die attach, fiber attach, lid seal, underfill, etc.)
Select adhesives based on optical, thermal, mechanical, and reliability requirements
Define and validate dispensing, curing, and handling processes for production environments
Establish process windows, material specifications, and control plans
Troubleshooting & Yield Improvement
Lead root-cause analysis for adhesive-related failures (delamination, voiding, misalignment, optical loss, reliability issues)
Support yield improvement and defect reduction initiatives in manufacturing
Resolve epoxy performance issues across temperature, humidity, and mechanical stress conditions
Manufacturing & Scale-Up Support
Support NPI and production ramp activities across global manufacturing sites
Work with equipment vendors on dispensing systems, curing ovens, and automation
Ensure epoxy processes are scalable, repeatable, and cost-effective
Reliability & Qualification
Support material qualification and reliability testing (thermal cycling, damp heat, shear, pull, aging)
Collaborate with Quality teams on FA, CAPA, and customer escalations
Ensure compliance with internal reliability standards and customer requirements
Global Technical Support & Knowledge Sharing
Act as a global technical expert for epoxy-related topics
Provide training and documentation for operations and engineering teams
Interface with epoxy suppliers and material vendors for formulation support and roadmap alignment
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
5–10+ years of hands-on experience with epoxy materials and adhesive processes
Direct experience in optical, photonics, semiconductor, or precision electronics manufacturing
Strong exposure to production troubleshooting and factory support
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Deep knowledge of epoxy chemistry, curing mechanisms, fillers, and modifiers
Experience with optical alignment-sensitive assemblies
Familiarity with dispensing technologies (time-pressure, auger, jetting, automated systems)
Understanding of thermal, mechanical, and optical impacts of adhesive selection
Ability to analyze failure modes and drive data-based decisions
Experience in silicon photonics, fiber optics, or laser/optical modules
Knowledge of industry standards (Telcordia, JEDEC, MIL-STD)
Good command in English communication both verbal and written, including in-person and virtual presentation skills. Able to train and mentor peers when needed.
International travel required.
