About BeeX

BeeX is building the world's most advanced Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (HAUVs).

BeeX specialises in providing autonomous robotics solutions to safeguard underwater infrastructure in the maritime, energy and defense sectors, reducing over 90% of carbon emissions. We are pioneering Autonomous Robotics-as-a-Service (ARaaS) on a global scale, supported by decades of operational experience in harsh waters. With unprecedented efficiency, we strive to provide our customers with a one-point solution for asset integrity management -- protecting assets they value, making sure they stay safe.

Why Join Now
The industries we serve need new ways to overcome their current challenges, and BeeX sees the opportunity in delivering exactly that, right now. Creating anything new is very hard, and we need outstanding people.

At BeeX, everyone is dependent; united by enthusiasm for bold innovation. Our multi-disciplinary team thrives in dynamic environments, driving transformative advancements globally. Join us to make a meaningful impact on the world!

You will enjoy this job if you:

  • Want to work in fast-paced start-up environment, prioritizing growth over short-term gains
  • Like to work independently, as well as collaboratively with team members in other sub-teams
  • Have a positive learning mindset, and can quickly absorb knowledge to overcome challenges
  • Can assess risk and make time-critical decisions/tradeoffs in imperfect scenarios

Your Role

BeeX is looking for an Engineering Lead, reporting to CTO, to own the mechanical design and integration of our HAUV/AUV platforms, from concept through field deployment. This is a hands-on technical leadership role: you will lead a team of mechanical and mechatronics engineers, drive design decisions on pressure housings, propulsion, and payload integration, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with electrical and software engineers to bring vehicles from the workshop to the water. Strong working knowledge of electrical/electronic systems is expected, as mechanical and electrical integration are tightly coupled in our vehicles.

Your Job Scope

  1. Lead the mechanical and electrical design, analysis, and integration of Hovering Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (HAUVs), including pressure housings, modular frames, buoyancy/trim systems, multi-DOF thruster configurations for hovering/station-keeping, and inspection payload/sensor mounts (cameras, sonar, NDT sensors).
  2. Own design-for-manufacture, tolerancing, and material selection decisions for subsea inspection environments — corrosion resistance, dynamic sealing, pressure ratings — alongside electrical design decisions for wet-mateable connectors, penetrators, and power distribution suited to hovering-class vehicles.
  3. Design, integrate, and troubleshoot wiring harnesses, connectors, penetrators, and power/signal routing across the vehicle, ensuring clean integration between mechanical housings/frames and electrical/electronic subsystems (thrusters, sensors, control electronics).
  4. Lead structural and electrical validation (FEA, pressure testing, load testing, continuity/insulation testing) to certify HAUV designs for operational depth, hovering/maneuvering duty cycles, and power system reliability.
  5. Manage the full engineering lifecycle for HAUV platforms — requirements, CAD/schematic design, prototyping, testing, field trials, and production handover — across both mechanical and electrical workstreams.
  6. Lead and mentor a team of mechanical, electrical, and mechatronics engineers, reviewing designs across disciplines and building technical capability within the team.
  7. Support and, where needed, personally conduct pool and open-water trials of HAUV units, including vehicle assembly, pre-dive electrical/mechanical checks, hovering/station-keeping performance validation, and post-dive teardown/inspection.
  8. Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical failures in HAUVs during field operations (including ARaaS deployments) and drive root-cause corrective actions.
  9. Maintain engineering documentation for HAUV platforms: mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, BOMs, wiring diagrams, test reports, and design change records.
  10. Collaborate with engineering, production, and operations teams to ensure HAUVs meet reliability, maintainability, and manufacturability targets across mechanical and electrical systems for subsea inspection service delivery.
  11. Support procurement and vendor management for mechanical components, electrical/electronic parts, fabrication, and machining partners specific to HAUV builds.

Desired Qualities

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Marine/Offshore Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, with direct experience designing, building, or maintaining ROVs, AUVs, or other subsea/marine robotic systems.
  • Solid working knowledge of electrical/electronic fundamentals; wiring, connectors, basic circuit troubleshooting, power distribution, sufficient to work hands-on across the mechanical-electrical interface.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools and familiarity with FEA/simulation tools.
  • Practical experience with pressure housing design, sealing (O-rings, potting), and testing subsea equipment.
  • Comfortable working hands-on in a workshop environment: fabrication, assembly, machining coordination, and troubleshooting.
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring a small engineering team.
  • Willingness to travel for field trials and deployments.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and comfort working in a fast-moving, resource-constrained start-up environment.

Good to Have

  • Experience with underwater sensor integration (sonar, cameras, DVL, IMU).
  • Familiarity with marine/offshore industry standards and certification processes.
  • Experience with composite materials or specialized manufacturing processes for marine applications.
  • Exposure to autonomy/control systems and how they interface with mechanical and electrical subsystems

Remuneration Package

  • Market competitive salary
  • Growth opportunities that align with your direct ability in helping the company, rather than an arbitrary corporate ladder
  • ESOP / equity participation
  • Healthcare support
  • Special access to industry events
  • Well-stocked pantry with nice snacks
  • Support for skills upgrading / learning credits
