Engineer, Application Management

Role Overview

The Engineer, Application Management will provide end-to-end application support across production, pre-production, and test environments. This includes investigating and solving issues, developing fixes, supporting new releases, and performing general maintenance and administration. The role also involves implementing enhancements, performance tuning, and ensuring system reliability.

This position requires flexibility to work Morning, Day, or Night shifts aligned to UK time as per the monthly roster, with a hybrid work arrangement (minimum three days in office). On-call and out-of-hours support, including weekends and Bank Holidays, is frequently required.

Building strong business knowledge and collaborating effectively with business teams during investigations is essential. Over time, the individual is expected to become a domain expert in the technologies underpinning these applications and provide detailed technical support for bug fixes and new releases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Application Support
    • Provide support for LSEG Post Trade / London Clearing House (LCH) applications related to Shared Technical Services and Securities Clearing Services.
    • Monitor and resolve incidents and problems via ServiceNow, following documented procedures and escalation protocols.
    • Apply resolutions in line with LCH Organizational Change procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Bug Fixes & Enhancements
    • Design and implement long-term solutions for application bugs and minor functionality enhancements.
    • Update source code in GitLab and maintain relevant documentation.
    • Coordinate release processes and ensure compliance with ITIL standards and LSEG policies.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Maintain strong working relationships with business teams, management, and other support teams.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely with technical and non-technical interested parties.
  • Shift & On-Call Support
    • Provide overnight and weekend support for production services, releases, and maintenance activities.
    • Participate in disaster recovery exercises and other critical out-of-hours activities.
  • Project Support
    • Assist with project-related tasks as defined by project teams.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Review development release packages prior to production deployment.
    • Apply domain expertise to ensure quality and compliance.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in production support or Site Reliability Engineering (internship or associate level preferred).
  • Strong UNIX/Linux administration skills.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Bash/Shell, Python).
  • Solid Oracle Database and SQL query skills.
  • Experience with IBM MQ and knowledge of network diagnostics and web servers.
  • Hands-on experience with version control (Bitbucket or GitLab).
  • Familiarity with Control-M, Jenkins/GitLab CI/CD, Ansible, and AWS Cloud technologies (preferred).
  • Understanding of product development lifecycle and ITIL v4 Foundation certification (preferred).

  • Experience in financial services or investment banking.
  • Familiarity with financial products and terminology.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders.
