What You'll Do:
SambaSafety is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our organization as Director, State Government Operations. You will work closely with stakeholders throughout the company to manage SambaSafety's operations and escalations to the 50 State Departments of Motor Vehicles (DMVs) and select federal agencies with an interest in motor vehicle risk and safety.
Primary Location: Remote. Travel required as necessary (10-25%).

  • Provide comprehensive, timely day-to-day management of SambaSafety's government relations triage escalation function, ensuring that SambaSafety is properly completing all triage-related tasks that require information, action and advocacy with state partners.
  • Seek insight and communicate pending developments to the SambaSafety team and collaborate in developing internal and external communications and responses.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with state regulatory agency stakeholders at all levels. Primarily with operational and engineering contacts. Coordinate SambaSafety's activities establishing and maintaining working relationships at multiple levels and functions within each agency.
  • Research, analyze, and advise SambaSafety leadership regarding key regulatory and legislative issues. Participates in company strategic planning and provides expertise in area of specialization.
  • Document all details related to data acquisition from jurisdiction DMVs and other data sources
  • Seek and procure new and enhanced data services from jurisdictions and 3td party and intermediary data providers
  • Manage day to day relationships with 3rd party and intermediary data providers
  • Own all technical and operational projects that are delivered by the VP, Government Relations. Coordinate and manage the complete and timely delivery of all project related information to SambaSafety's Product and Engineering teams. Assemble key stakeholders, arrange initial and ongoing meetings to ensure that all internal parties are aware of any required information for the prioritization and completion of the project.
  • Manage and contribute to strategic projects as assigned by the Chief Compliance Officer and VP, Government Relations.
  • Manage Direct Report - Compliance Documentation Specialist
  • Represent SambaSafety with associations and trade organizations.


Required Skills:

  • Drive and attention to detail in the rapid handling and completion of triage escalation tasks.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the external and internal dynamics impacting state agencies and a proven ability to drive decision making and influence policy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse range of internal and external stakeholders including executives, product managers.
  • Organized with effective time management skills to manage and meet deadlines on multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to drill into policy and legal details while also able to communicate the high-level strategic impacts to non-experts.
  • Collaborative, flexible, detail oriented, results driven, and with strong ethics.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: BA/BS in related field preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years in technical escalation, corporate government affairs, public policy, government, and/or trade associations. Specific knowledge of Driver data, FCRA, DPPA, and related regulatory and legislative environments preferred.
