We are looking for Director, Legal, Corporate to be part of our APAC legal team with a focus on serving the real estate, energy, infrastructure and construction needs of Equinix’s Asia Pacific region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and develop a team of legal counsels serving the real estate, energy, infrastructure and construction needs of Equinix’s Asia Pacific region.

  • Collaborate effectively with legal counsels and professionals within the Real Estate Global Practice Group, leading the effort for the Asia Pacific region within that group, in ensuring a consistent practice globally.    

  • Partner with senior leadership in the real estate, construction and energy fields to design and deliver effective legal services in support of the business objectives of those teams.

  • Independently lead negotiations and manage all types of real estate transactions, both core business and hyperscale (xScale), including purchases, sales, leases, development agreements, management agreements, financing.

  • Interpret contracts, provide legal advice and resolve disputes arising with respect to existing real estate portfolio, energy projects and construction projects.

  • Provide power-related advice, including negotiating power purchase agreements, overseeing substation construction arrangements, and assisting with regulatory advice regarding power capacity and campus structuring.

  • Provide general legal support to the organization, including review and negotiation of licenses, supplier contracts, power purchase agreements, and infrastructure agreements.

  • Effectively and efficiently manage outside counsels. Adapt to and understand local customs with respect to real estate and infrastructure transactions.

  • Work with and coordinate activities among individuals in various departments around the world, including tax, finance, compliance, regulatory, design and construction, real estate and corporate development.

  • Navigate competing workflows, set appropriate priorities with clients and deliver results within agreed timelines.

  • Think creatively and devise solutions to challenging problems, including making and articulating determinations regarding risks and benefits.

  • Exercise mature and reliable judgment while enjoying Equinix’s enthusiastic, informal and fast-paced environment.

  • Flexibility and desire to work on challenging and new projects to support a lean and highly efficient legal team.

  • Willingness to develop and handle new areas of expertise and solve problems, especially in growth and emerging markets in the region.

Qualifications

  • 10+  years of relevant law firm or in-house experience, with at least 8 years of dedicated transactional real estate and/or infrastructure practice.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and develop teams of legal professionals.

  • Experience as the point person responsible for negotiating and closing complex, high value transactions.

  • Previous experience regarding energy law and power-related agreements, in particular renewable power related agreements, is a plus.

  • Experience or familiarity with data centers and the colocation and telecommunications services industries a plus.

  • Strong communication, leadership and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work at pace, and problem solve issues using a risk-based approach.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a demanding workload.

  • Ability to review and/or draft in another Asian language other than English a plus as this role will provide legal support to APAC region.
