Team Overview
For over 30 years, BlackRock’s Financial Institutions Group (“FIG”) has offered clients tailored access to investment solutions across active and passive exposures spanning the investment universe (from public fixed income and equities to private markets and multi-asset investing). In Asia today, more than 20 insurance-dedicated FIG client coverage and Insurance Solutions specialists partner with colleagues from across the platform to engage with more than 120 insurance clients in the region, supporting their investment, balance sheet and broader business objectives.
Role Overview
The FIG Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining key insurance relationships in Hong Kong (i.e. the Hong Kong operations of global insurers, regional insurers and local insurers) to drive strong business growth. In addition to traditional client coverage responsibilities, the role (in partnership with multiple BlackRock teams) will be expected to originate and lead strategic initiatives where insurers engage BlackRock on enterprise-wide solutions spanning investments and broader enterprise priorities including balance sheet management, capital optimization, technology and operating model enhancement. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage strategic relationships with CIOs, CFOs, Chief Actuaries, CROs, Treasurers and other senior decision-makers across insurance organisations to identify and pursue new business as well as support long-term business retention.
- Drive new revenue and new mandate generation across a range of products and solutions, including origination of new strategic outsourcing and enterprise partnership opportunities derived from client change programs designed to optimize investments, capital and operational outcomes.
- Develop and execute individual client engagement strategies to uncover and execute opportunities with the most commercial impact.
- Clearly and concisely articulate market, investment and product/solutions narratives to sophisticated institutional investors and internal stakeholders.
- Develop broad fluency across BlackRock's investment, technology and solutions capabilities to identify opportunities and coordinate the Firm's resources effectively.
- Work collaboratively with partners across BlackRock to drive new business opportunities and solve complex client challenges.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to the team’s overall development.
- Keep BlackRock’s management informed with timely and impactful updates regarding the local and regional market, key clients, and material pipeline opportunities to ensure effective engagement between clients and BlackRock’s most senior personnel.
Preferred Background
- Candidates from a range of relevant sectors are encouraged to apply, including insurance asset management, insurance consulting, actuarial advisory, FIG investment banking, capital markets, reinsurance, insurance solutions, or other related financial services backgrounds.
Key Qualifications
We are seeking candidates with a combination of the following:
- Experience in institutional fundraising and a strong understanding of the asset management sales process for institutional investors, including the ability to originate and advance opportunities involving complex investment solutions that require extensive internal and external stakeholder management.
- Deep understanding of insurance balance sheet management and the impact of regulatory and accounting frameworks, including HKRBC, ICS, Solvency II, IFRS 17, and other relevant insurance capital regimes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate market views, investment capabilities, and platform strengths clearly and effectively to sophisticated investors. Able to tailor messaging to different audiences and communicate with impact.
- Proven track record of developing deep client relationships and serving as a trusted advisor, with an established network across insurers' investment, finance, risk, and actuarial functions.
- Strong intellectual curiosity, commercial acumen, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build credibility and influence senior stakeholders across the Firm and within the insurance community.
