Position Overview

The Director, Finance plays a pivotal role in supporting the Head of Finance & Finance Operations – APAC, overseeing all aspects of financial accounting, reporting, planning, and analysis for the Financial Solutions (FS) business within the Asia Pacific region. The incumbent’s responsibilities may focus on FS-related activities for specific markets, which could change over time based on business needs. The primary focus is on US GAAP, US statutory, and management reporting requirements; however, the role also necessitates close collaboration with local finance leaders to ensure compliance with local statutory reporting standards. The Director, Finance is expected to work cross-functionally to champion the regionalisation of finance processes and foster a culture of operational excellence. In addition, the role is responsible for ensuring that appropriate financial controls are established and operating effectively in the areas and markets for which the individual is responsible.
Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare or review monthly and quarterly journal entries for both onshore and offshore transactions.
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations and all tasks related to the financial close process.
  • Oversee coordination and processing of technical payments to cedants.
  • Oversee trust reporting and funding activities.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration within the Finance function and across business units on all FS-related accounting matters.
  • Ensure robust financial controls are designed, implemented, and maintained for the FS business in the areas and markets assigned.
  • Maintain comprehensive SOX documentation and provide support during year-end and other internal/external audits as required.
  • Contribute to the monthly and quarterly financial close processes for FS, working closely with teams such as Valuation, Administration, Regional Finance, and Investment Accounting.
  • Analyse monthly and quarterly FS results, identify key variances and drivers, and effectively communicate findings to the Head of FS Finance & Finance Operations – APAC and relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide support throughout the annual planning and budgeting process for the FS business.
  • Serve as a Finance representative for FS deals within the region, offering financial analysis and support for deal negotiations.
  • Liaise with stakeholders across Asia Pacific to drive regionalisation and finance process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (required).
  • Licenses/Certifications: CA/CPA certification or equivalent (required).

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in accounting or auditing (required).
  • Demonstrated experience in insurance or reinsurance accounting (required).
  • Previous experience in a regional or multinational environment (preferred).

  • Analytical Acumen & Attention to Detail: Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and deliver actionable insights. Maintains accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of financial reporting and analysis.
  • Communication: Superior written and verbal English communication skills, adept at presenting complex financial concepts to stakeholders at all levels in a clear and concise manner.
  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of accounting and finance principles, including GAAP and statutory requirements. Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, and SQL/Query required. Experience with major accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP platforms) and familiarity with financial modelling and reporting tools highly regarded.
