KEY DUTIES

Objective:

Support the technical execution of the Liquids / Dry Parts Value workstream through a strong automation engineering skillset across BMS, ERP, MES, Batch, PLC, and SCADA systems. The role requires a solid understanding of process mechanical and electrical systems within the plant and acting as a subject matter expert in at least one area of the plant control system architecture.

The Automation Engineer will support and optimize automated production systems operating in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. This includes a working knowledge of MES, ERP, and PLC-controlled machines and processes associated with food and beverage production, Clean-in-Place (CIP), process water systems, wastewater treatment systems and energy management systems. Exposure to advanced manufacturing technologies and continuous improvement methodologies is also essential, including monitoring and improving SPC and OEE performance, as well as supporting technologies such as collaborative robots and automated guided vehicles (AGVs).

The Automation Engineer will provide troubleshooting and technical support for batch execution systems and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platforms used to release and manage production batches. These systems form the basis of automated traceability and KORE compliance. Responsibilities include technical support and maintenance of SCADA and HMI systems used for production monitoring and visualization of complex process and packaging operations. Troubleshooting of ERP-to-PLC interfaces and enterprise-to-shopfloor communication systems will also be required in a highly integrated production environment.

The role will be responsible for lifecycle management of automation hardware and software. This includes supporting upgrade, migration, and modernization projects. This role will contribute to the maintenance and reliability of shop floor OT networks, ensuring systems remain connected, secure, and protected against cybersecurity threats. A practical understanding of industrial networking, cybersecurity principles, virtual machines, and server infrastructure is required, along with collaboration with IT teams during server maintenance and patching activities.

In addition to reactive technical support, the role involves the development and implementation of proactive automation solutions. This includes participation in project scoping, cost and schedule evaluation, vendor management, project execution, risk analysis and mitigation, and stakeholder management.

This role requires to run shift following operation schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply proactive and methodical approach to troubleshooting daily shift production issues with cross functional teams comprising shift managers, technicians, engineers, quality, and safety personnel.
  • Implement small to medium projects as agreed in local site prioritization and financial requirements and constraints of capital or local operational expense systems.
  • Take ownership and lead the development, agreement, and execution of cross functional resolution plans to address gaps in throughput, quality, safety, and environmental metrics. 
  • Manages automation centered projects & control system modifications, ensuring that verification & validation procedures are implemented.
  • Develop comprehensive obsolescence profiles for hardware and software systems for 5, 10,15-year time horizons.
  • Support to CAPEX project team as the subject matter expert from an automation point of view.
  • Optimize processes to enhance production efficiency, product quality, and reduce waste.
  • Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required specifications.
  • Execution of comprehensive cybersecurity projects in the shopfloor layer, enhancing operational security and compliance with industry standards.
  • Develop and implement security protocols and measures to safeguard critical manufacturing and production systems.

QUALIFICATIONS & RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Working knowledge in liquid batching processing, filling and conveyor lines is an advantage.
  • Should possess comprehensive knowledge of PLC, SCADA systems, IT and IoT platforms, as well as experience in Digital Manufacturing operations grounded in real-world project work.
  • PLC Programming: Allen Bradley ControlLogix, Siemens S7. Experience in FactoryTalk product suite is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control networks: EthernetIP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profinet
  • Electrical & Instrumentation expertise.
  • Knowledge of Batch control, industrial gateway and ERP connectivity.
  • Experience in VB, MSSQL, Java and Python, as well as networking, is an advantage.
  • Self - Directed and take initiative
  • Outstanding project management, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to work and deliver results in dynamic environments while adhering to specified deadlines. Having a PMP certification will be an added bonus.
  • Track record of delivering projects in a highly automated environment. Should be able to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Preferable 5 years relevant experience is essential (programming, systems support), preferably in a food or process environment.
