Markato is a wholesale B2B marketplace and digital distributor connecting retailers in APAC with high potential brands from around the world. We provide retailers and brands access to new retail opportunities in Asia as well as seamless online and offline infrastructure to thrive in the modern world.


In April 2023, Markato closed a seed round led by Lightspeed. Since then, the company has assembled a founding team comprised of early employees at Deliveroo, Uber and Grab who led the launch and expansion of those marketplace startups across Asia over the past decade. We are currently operating in 4 markets and expanding our team to drive our continued growth trajectory.


We are currently looking for a General Manager for Singapore who will be responsible for driving the growth of our business in the country.

What you will be doing

  • P&L Ownership: Manage and take ownership of Markato's overall P&L for the Singapore market, ensuring performance targets are met; includes budget planning, monitoring expenses, and preparing regular updates and forecasts on market performance.
  • Overall Strategy: Conduct market research to identify opportunities, set targets for growth, formulate business strategies, determine areas of investment, identify partnerships to support our business objectives, align team priorities and resource allocation, and drive initiatives to increase our market share.
  • Team Build and Development: Grow our Singapore sales organization by managing the daily operations and professional development of the sales team, while scaling team headcount in other functions as required by business growth.
  • Marketing and Growth: Deliver overall sales numbers, own relationships with key stakeholders, work closely with marketing and growth team to develop strategies for acquiring and retaining customers, including setting campaigns, analyzing clusters and retention and optimizng marketing planning and spend.
  • Key Account Development and Management: Build and maintain a robust pipeline of key accounts to enhance business growth and establish Markato as the preferred sourcing platform for Singapore retailers.
  • Operations: Accountable for day-to-day operations in market by implementing efficient processes and procedures, optimizing workflows, resolving operational and logistical issues, maintaining best in class customer service to deliver the best customer experience.
  • Business Infrastructure: Set up and optimize business infrastructure to support sustained growth and a strong market presence in Singapore.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Collaborate with product, operations, and tech teams at HQ to translate local market needs into actionable plans and ensure consistent support for the Singapore team.

What we are looking for

  • Experience in a managerial role, preferably in a high growth startup, management consulting, or finance; experience in retail or wholesale related businesses is a nice to have but not a pre-requisite.
  • You are extremely driven and want to build a business from 0 to 1.
  • You are highly organised and independent, while also having strong internal coordination and communication abilities to work effectively with the HQ team based in Hong Kong.
  • You have the ability to both lead through influence and execute extremely well.
  • You are very comfortable with ambiguity.
  • You have excellent analytical skills and are comfortable to make data-driven decisions.
  • You have strong communication skills and the ability to synthesize at the right altitude.
  • You are sociable and love to engage with new customers.
  • You are hungry to win and like to chase after deals.
  • You want to work in a fast-paced environment with constant change.
  • Good business acumen and interest in exploring the B2B ecommerce space.
  • You have a bias to action!
