Role Title: Consultant – Finance Data Controls & Reconciliation

Role Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented Consultant to support finance data controls, reconciliation, and data quality management within a regulatory reporting environment (including ESG / ISSB disclosures).

This role sits at the intersection of finance, data, and controls, ensuring that critical financial data is accurate, complete, and audit-ready. You will work closely with finance, risk, and data teams to investigate discrepancies, resolve data issues, and maintain strong governance standards across systems.

Key responsibilities

1. Data Quality & Validation

  • Perform data validation checks to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency of finance data.
  • Analyse exception reports to identify trends, anomalies, and recurring data issues.
  • Investigate root causes of data breaks and coordinate with upstream teams to resolve them

2. Reconciliation & Adjustments

  • Perform regular reconciliations across multiple systems to ensure data alignment.
  • Identify and investigate variances, working with finance and operations teams to validate differences.
  • Execute and document data adjustments (“true-ups”) with full traceability and supporting evidence.
  • Ensure all adjustments are accurately recorded with proper classification and audit trails

3. Data Controls & Governance 

  • Support reference data management by assessing change impacts and ensuring updates are properly implemented.
  • Maintain strong data governance practices, ensuring compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain audit-ready documentation, including evidence packs and process records

4. Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with finance, risk, and data teams across regions to resolve issues and improve data quality.
  • Respond to stakeholder queries with clear explanations and supporting documentation.
  • Escalate risks, control gaps, and unresolved issues with recommended actions

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2–5 years’ experience in finance operations, data controls, reconciliation, or reporting, preferably in consulting or banking industry. 
  • Solid understanding of reconciliation, data validation, and financial data flows.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting concepts (e.g. general ledger).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis.
  • High attention to detail with a strong control and audit mindset.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets.
  • Working knowledge of SQL (essential) for data investigation and analysis.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across teams and stakeholders
