RESPONSIBILITIES (Key accountabilities and responsibilities)

The Configuration Manager is responsible for:

  • To provide functional leadership of the configuration management discipline at the domain level.
  • The definition during the bid phase of the scope of work for configuration management activities during the program.
  • The (where delegated by the Project Manager) execution of the work package manager role for the configuration management work packages on programs.
  • The analysis of contract requirements with respect to configuration management during the bid phase.
  • The interaction with the customer to clarify or adjust configuration management requirements.
  • The management of defined baselines and customer configuration management related requirements for a program/product line.
  • The creation and maintenance of the Configuration Management Plan (CMP) for the program/product lines.
  • Working with Customers, Partners, Sub-contractors and Suppliers to:
    • assess their configuration management capability;
    • to manage the flow-down of configuration management requirements via a defined statement of work (SOW); 
    • audit the implementation of configuration management requirements by sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • To actively manage the configuration management interactions across the Thales to Customer/Partner/Subcontractor/Supplier boundaries to ensure the efficient & effective management of build to spec, or design to spec practices.
  • Working with engineering staff to determine the choice of, using the defined criteria:
    • of configuration items;
    • of items to be controlled.
  • The organisation of the product structure of common elements, variants and options, in support of, and with the agreement of the Program/Product Line Manager.
  • The definition of, and organising and steering the Configuration Control Board (CCB) including pre and post CCB activities (including clerical work).
  • The management of Contract, Functional, Allocated and Product Configuration Baselines (CBL, FBL, ABL, PBL) for the program/product line.
  • The provision to the customer, under project management control, of configuration management deliverables.
  • The verification and audit of  the contents and integrity of the CMS.
  • The provision of configuration management support of engineering and program phase reviews and milestone events.
  • Ensuring that the program/product lines are fully and comprehensively managed within the CMS.
  • The conduct of Functional and Physical Configuration Audits. (FCA, PCA) for the program/product line.
  • The coordination of the configuration management actions across departments for program/product lines.
  • Working with program/product line management, and sales & marketing to cater for the creation of new versions of the product or system.
  • The line management of the staff  in the configuration management team.
  • other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate Technical or Business qualification(s) or equivalent in a related area of Configuration Management.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

  • For a graduate experience in a related technical discipline or at least extensive experience in Configuration Management.
  • Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
  • Solid experience with Tools such as PTC Windchill or Siemens Teamcenter or equivalent
  • Knowledge of configuration Management standards & processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership, negotiation and coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of the Systems Engineering discipline

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Customer Service Engineering.
  • Relevant experience in standards such as SAE EIA-649, MIL-HDBK-61B, ISO 10007, etc
  • Team management.
  • Transversal management.
  • Knowledge of the product.
