The Compliance & Regulatory Lead will manage customs activities, ensure compliance with regulations, liaise with authorities, and optimize customs documentation.
Position Overview
The Compliance & Regulatory Lead - Supply Chain will oversee all customs activities, and government relations within the supply chain. The role ensures full compliance with international and local regulations, maintains strong relationships with authorities, and manages logistics and documentation for customs clearance.
The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of customs regulations, international trade, and a proven ability to liaise effectively with government authorities to ensure smooth and compliant global operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive compliance frameworks for global customs operations, ensuring adherence to both local and international regulations.
- Oversee the optimisation of customs documentation, tariff classifications, and duty management, ensuring efficient and timely customs clearance for imports and exports across all locations.
- Proactively monitor changes in trade regulations and customs laws across regions, adjusting internal policies and procedures to maintain continuous compliance and mitigate risks.
- Identify and address compliance risks related to customs clearance, such as tariff misclassification or inaccurate documentation, and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimise exposure.
- Act as the primary liaison with government officials, ensuring timely approvals, certifications, and compliance with national regulations. Cultivate strong relationships with customs authorities and regulatory bodies at both national and international levels.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including supply chain, legal, finance, and procurement, to align on customs procedures, compliance requirements, and documentation. Ensure internal stakeholders are well-educated on regulatory changes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within customs clearance processes, focusing on streamlining operations, reducing bottlenecks, and leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, automate documentation, and improve processing times.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 8-10 years of experience in supply chain compliance, customs management, international trade, and logistics, with expertise in the APAC region.
- In-depth knowledge of global customs regulations and navigating complex customs requirements across various regions.
- Proficiency in customs software, ERP systems (SAP, Oracle), and logistics management platforms.
- Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to engage effectively with government officials, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders; proficiency in any Asian language is a plus.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with government authorities, customs brokers, and freight forwarding partners.
- Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle high-pressure situations, resolve conflicts, and collaborate across functions.
