About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Capital Markets Counsel in the Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) Markets Section of the Legal Department.

This position will provide legal advice and transactional support to the banking and capital markets business in Singapore and the broader Asia-Pacific region (APAC), with emphasis on capital markets (debt, fixed income, M&A), derivatives, structured finance, and credit transactions. This role will support senior legal advisors and business clients, assisting with regulatory issues, transactional documentation, and risk management.

This position will provide legal advice and transactional support to the banking and capital markets business in Singapore and the broader Asia-Pacific region (APAC), with emphasis on capital markets (debt, fixed income, M&A), derivatives, structured finance, and credit transactions. This role will support senior legal advisors and business clients, assisting with regulatory issues, transactional documentation, and risk management.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice on cross-border transactional and regulatory issues.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents for capital markets transactions.
- Support business units in executing strategies and objectives, including obtaining requisite approvals.
- Identify and mitigate transaction risks and provide creative legal input to new products and initiatives.
- Liaise with Compliance Department and Legal Department as appropriate.
- Keep colleagues updated on legal developments impacting Wells Fargo's APAC businesses.
- 4+ years of Law experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
- Active State Bar membership or the equivalent in a country outside the United States.
- Qualified lawyer admitted to practice in Singapore, Hong Kong, England, the United States, or other common-law jurisdictions.
- Approximately 4-7 years of experience practicing law with a major law firm or financial services organization.
- Experience representing financial institutions on cross-border transactions and regulatory issues in Asia is preferred.
- Good technical knowledge of relevant laws (securities, tax, etc.) with respect to capital markets, securities, derivatives, and structured finance products.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Flexible, proactive, and collaborative approach.
- Ability to work effectively in multinational, multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of Singapore securities laws and MAS regulations a plus.
- Knowledge of U.S. securities laws and banking regulations (and how they impact global coverage models) is a plus.
- Proficiency in Chinese will be an advantage as the role involves reviewing legal documents and liaising with stakeholders in Chinese-speaking jurisdictions within APAC.
