The Business Development Manager (Team Lead) is responsible for driving the sales strategy, generating new business leads, collaborating with internal partners, and maintaining market awareness. This role involves coaching and developing team members, preparing performance reports, and contributing to product development to maintain Cigna’s market leadership.
Critical Tasks and Expected Contributions/Results:
- Develop and drive proactive Group Sales strategy execution plan to maximise opportunities
- Direct the development and recommendation of measurable production and profit objectives which can be achieved through both product lines, including budgeting, forecasting activities and analyses market and client analyses, etc.
- Generate and follow up new business leads to meet sales and profitability targets in line with overall strategy
- Ensure effective collaboration with internal business partners, e.g. Operations, Finance, Legal & Compliance, for best deployment of sales strategy and delivery of optimum service to clients
- Keep abreast of all developments in the market for both clients and competitors
- Raise Cigna’s profile and reputation externally and establish Cigna as a recognised authority in the market
- Prepare regular reports for senior management to monitor sales effectiveness and performance against target and initiate corrective actions as appropriate
- Provide direction, coaching and robust development plans for business development talents to drive results through change and grow succession in sales management
Key Challenges/Anticipated Changes in Environment:
- Keep close to market trends and development, including competitors’ strategy, and proactively adjust the Sales strategy and execution as needed to maximize specific opportunities
- Gain buy-in from stakeholders (internal and external) in the Sales strategy, connecting departments and efforts for strong collaboration in delivering the sales proposition
- Add value in sales, strategy and product discussions to drive profitability and increase/deepen market share
- Liaise with internal departments, e.g. underwriting, claims teams, marketing, in line with established procedures to ensure optimimum service to client
Developmental Value of Position:
- Lead in the development of a robust and proactive Sales strategy that edges out competitors and maintain and further widen the gap in Cigna Singapore’s market leader position
- Lead the research and development of new business opportunities and products
- Contribute to the development/enhancement of Cigna products to meet users’ requirements
- Liaise with other Cigna worldwide offices to develop opportunities; to drive cross sell activities
Experience/Knowledge, Education and Other Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree level required
- Relevant insurance certification : BCP, PGI and HI
- Minimum 10 years’ healthcare industry experience
- At least 5 years’ experience at a senior and/or sales management level with a focus on both growth and profitability
- Experience in working with multiple stakeholders and distribution channels
- Experience in developing strategic market, sales and/or business plans
- An established network of contacts and relationships with key players/decision makers in the market is preferred
