Owns data and AI governance initiatives within a technology unit, including operating-model design, policy and controls adoption, data quality management, assessment reviews, responsible data use, AI governance, risk monitoring, issue remediation, audit readiness, and stakeholder escalation. The role advises data domain leaders, coordinates with enterprise risk and data functions, and strengthens data governance culture across a complex, regulated banking environment.
Job Purpose:

- We are constantly challenged by changes in Technology advancements and increasing customer sophistication and demands. We need a strong Data Management team in the Technology department to ensure we have a robust operating environment for data management to meet the challenges ahead.
- As a member of the Unit Data Office team, you will be in a 1.5 line of defense role responsible for delivering data management initiatives including setting up the operating model for data governance, driving data quality outcomes and monitoring data and AI risks and effectiveness of controls.
- Governance Operational Model – Design the workflow and process that introduce collaboration and support for Tech LOBTs use-case teams and provide guidance in adherence to Group Data Management principles such as PURE process.
- Advisory role – provide guidance and support unit-wide adoption of relevant Tech Policy, Standards, Controls adoption for Data and AI processes, RDU frameworks, relevant controls. Assist in driving usage of enterprise data tools (e.g., Collibra, Resolve, PURE, ALAN) to enable policy compliance.
- Data Quality & Issue Remediation – Responsible for data quality outcomes across unit‑owned data domains and assist in overseeing issue resolution by the Data Domain Leads/Champions, ensuring data is accurate, complete and fit for downstream. Support in driving remediation of systemic data issues or cross-domain/platform bottlenecks.
- Assessment Quality – Perform reviews of PURE assessments to validate the quality with the Group Data Management quality guidelines. Every quarter to review minimal 80% of Self-Assessments Use-Case and 20% Whitelisted Rubric Use-Cases.
- Data Usage – Support in establishing effective Responsible Data Use (RDU) operating model and assist in driving adherence to PURE and AI Governance frameworks within the unit. Facilitate the approval of materiality score and deployment of AI use cases and models in the unit.
- Advisory and escalation support – Advise Data Domain Leads/Champions to interpret, prioritise and apply data policies and standards, proposed deviations or risk acceptances. Act as delegate for escalation authority for unresolved domain‑level data control failures, systemic issues, or material data risks within the unit, and steer cross‑domain remediation. Act as the delegate for primary liaison between the unit and Group CDO, EDA, ISS and Risk functions on data and AI risks.
- Culture & Curriculum – Support in driving initiatives to strengthen data and AI risk culture and skills within the unit.
- Compliance & audit readiness - Responsible for unit‑level readiness for data and AI, including RFIs and remediation tracking. Timely resolution and escalation of audit findings, regulatory issues, and material control gaps related to data and AI risks.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Data Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Professional certifications in data governance or risk management are a plus.
- Over 6 years of relevant and progressive experience in data governance, data management, or data risk management within a large, complex organisation, preferably in a financial services sector.
- Over 2 years demonstrating capabilities in establishing and implementing data governance operating model, driving policy adoption, and overseeing monitoring risk frameworks.
- Good understanding of the banking business, organisation, processes and systems.
- Good knowledge in Data Quality Management, Metadata Management including Data Lineage, Data Cataloging, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), Data Security, Data Privacy, Data Architecture.
- Proven experience and breadth in experience across data infrastructure, data ingestion, data policies and governance with hands-on experience in guiding and executing initiatives with degree of complexity to completion / Proven experience successful defining and rolling out data governance in a complex organisation that has delivered desired data outcomes.
- Proven experience in a regional role, managing multiple stakeholders and teams.
- Experience working in complex, regulated, matrixed environments.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross-functional outcomes.
