Purpose of the role
The Sustainable Finance department is a newly created department within the Asian Investment Banking Division to focus on partnering with our clients to drive the sustainability agenda across APAC (ex Japan).
Primary Responsibilities
The team is now looking for a high caliber candidate to join our team and work with the other Sustainable Finance team members in promoting sustainable finance in APAC.
Origination and Execution
Take a systematic and well curated client engagement via prioritization (e.g. strategic clients, hard-to-abate sectors, industry champions)
Strategically embed Sustainable Financing elements into conventional financing structures, and incorporate ESG Rating advisory as concrete, actionable ideas in client discussions.
Develop client-centric marketing materials, pitch decks, and customized financing proposals tailored to specific client needs.
Support deal execution including frameworks, Second Party Opinion, facility documentation etc.
Work with coverage teams to support deal origination
Share the latest developments in sustainable finance across APAC
Remain up-to-speed with all of MUFG Industry partnerships and propose areas to accelerate engagement
Work closely with rating agencies
Risk Management
Showcase clear thought process and articulate both dos and don’ts factoring potential ESG risks whilst considering financing of a particular industry of a client or a project or an asset
Work closely with internal risk management teams to ensure there is appropriate representation of ESG factors on our portfolio
Ability to advise on appropriateness of SPTs and post-deal tracking of SPTs
Build a center of excellent for Sustainable Finance in APAC
Stakeholder Management (Internal)
Maintain close collaboration with the Coverage, Product Offices (e.g. Capital Markets, Project Finance, Securitization) and Credit division to ensure the priorities are aligned to drive a common outcome
Within a fast evolving regional and market sustainability landscape, differentiate MUFG’s positioning and proposition and relay the same to all stakeholders to drive growth for the Sustainable Finance Asia-Pacific business.
Provide timely business reporting, including tracking of KPIs
Create senior management presentations, with ability to present content in a succinct and coherent manner
Job Responsibilities:
Bachelor/Master Degree in any discipline
Minimum 5 years of work experience, with at least 4 years of relevant experience in sustainable financing
Proven track record of sustainable financing in financial institution, ESG rating agencies, or consultancy firm
Working knowledge of ICMA’s bond principles, APLMA’s loan principles, Climate Bonds Initiative, TCFD, and other major sustainability regulations
Solutions focused on proven business judgment and high ethical and professional standards
Possesses foundational knowledge of commercial loans and public bond structures, with a clear understanding of capital market syndication progress and basic credit requirements for corporate debts, as well as able to thoroughly review and comment on transaction documents
Stakeholder management skills to collaborate with other departments
Effective communication skills to work across teams and stakeholders.
This role involves regular communication with clients and partners in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Hence, proficiency in Business Mandarin is required. Proficiency in Cantonese and/or Korean would be an advantage.
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Project Management skills.
