About this role
The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with BlackRock’s insurance companies globally. We pride ourselves on creating and delivering bespoke investment solutions, advisory, and analysis to our sophisticated client base. The group is the industry's largest 3rd party asset manager of insurance company assets, and our insurance practice is a strategic focus of the firm. Global FIG team manages close to US$600bn of assets on behalf of c.500 insurance clients globally.
As an Associate of the FIG team, you will work as part of a team of client facing insurance specialists with a deep understanding of industry trends, client needs, and BlackRock’s capabilities across investment management, risk, and advisory. The team is comprised of insurance specialists with diverse backgrounds from across asset management, investment banking, insurance and consultancy. You will be a key point of contact for clients; supporting to design tailormade solutions which meet insurance specific needs, and work across various internal partner teams globally with the goal of delivering the firm to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to Head of FIG Greater China, he/she will work closely with the regional lead and various internal partners and stakeholders to support growth on insurance clients in Mainland China and offshore Hong Kong
Relationship Management and Servicing
Support senior Relationship Managers in managing and growing relationships with life and general insurance companies, including onshore and offshore entities.
Prepare for insurer client meetings, including agendas, briefing materials, pitch books, and follow‑ups.
Coordinate responses to insurer‑specific RFPs, DDQs, manager due diligence, and governance reviews.
Track client interactions, pipelines, and commercial opportunities using internal CRM system
Support portfolio reviews, asset allocation discussions, capital efficiency considerations, and mandate reviews.
Assist with onboarding, funding, ongoing monitoring, and servicing of insurance mandates.
Business Development
Partner with investment teams and insurance solutions teams to deliver solutions aligned with insurers’ objectives.
Provide analysis and support for business development initiatives, particularly in whole‑portfolio solutions and private markets.
Build deep knowledge of the China insurance market, including regulatory developments, capital regimes, accounting considerations, and investment constraints.
Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and insurer investment behavior relevant to China‑based insurance clients.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in institutional sales, insurance client coverage, investment consulting, or asset management.
Direct experience covering insurance companies is preferred, with strong familiarity across life and/or general insurance investment portfolios.
Proven experience supporting or managing insurer relationships, including mandates, RFPs, DDQs, and ongoing client servicing.
Strong understanding of insurance investment portfolios, ALM considerations, and capital‑efficient solutions.
Strong execution discipline with the ability to manage multiple complex stakeholder workflows.
Commercial mindset and long‑term orientation toward institutional relationship management.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or a related discipline; CFA or FSA designation is preferred.
Fluent in Simplified Mandarin Chinese (writing and speaking) and English; Simplified Mandarin fluency is mandatory due to client coverage requirements.
