Anti-Malware Research on Mobile Devices (Internship Project)
Be an Early Applicant
Research mobile malware behavior and concealment techniques on Android or iOS. Evaluate anti-malware applications and built-in mobile security features, assess their effectiveness in detecting and mitigating malware, and propose improvements. The project lasts 2–4 months and is intended for undergraduate or pre-university interns with basic C/C++ programming and mobile application development skills.

We are now using our mobile devices for a wide range of activities, from communications, entertainment to financial transactions like banking and shopping. Malware on mobile devices have grown tremendously with the increase use of mobile devices. Mobile device manufacturers and third-party developers have released anti-malware applications and features to defend against such malware.
This project aims to research into anti-malware functionality and applications on Android or iOS and assess the effectiveness of them.
Scope & Deliverables
- Study how mobile malware performs malicious activities and hide from a victim.
- Research into an anti-malware application and understand how it detects and mitigate against mobile malware.
- Assess the effectiveness of anti-malware features on existing mobile devices at detecting and mitigating mobile malware.
- Look into ways to improve detection and mitigation of mobile malware.
Prerequisites/Skills Required
- Strong interest in mobile device security
- Basic C/C++ Programming and mobile application development
- Basic understanding of reverse engineering and ARM assembly language would be an advantage
- Applicant should indicate preference in Android or iOS (if any)
