About Ahrefs

Ahrefs is a SaaS marketing platform that helps businesses become discoverable and unmissable online. We offer a suite of tools for SEO, content marketing and website performance, backed by 15 years of web crawling data and increasingly powered by AI to deliver strategic insights at scale.

We’re bootstrapped and profitable, and we have been for 15 years. There are no investors and no board, which means no outside timeline on our decisions and a finance function that exists to run the business rather than to prepare for the next round. We’re multinational, with offices in Palo Alto, Cambridge (MA), Singapore and Tokyo, and our culture is fast-moving, low-ego, and built on smart decisions and ownership.

The role

We’re looking for an accountant to run the day-to-day finance function across our five group entities, reporting to our Chief Accounting Officer and supervising a junior accountant.

The work covers accounting, reporting and consolidation across the group, and tax compliance across the jurisdictions we sell in: corporate tax, withholding tax, VAT/GST and US state sales tax.

We use automation and AI tooling to keep the finance function efficient, and there’s room to take that further.

This role is based out of Ahrefs’ office in Singapore. This is an on-site role: we’re looking for someone who’ll be in the office with the team.

What you’ll do

Accounting and reporting

  • Run day-to-day accounting across the group, including month-end and year-end close, reconciliations and supporting schedules
  • Prepare statutory and management reporting, analyse the numbers, and investigate variances and unusual items
  • Perform group consolidation across five entities, reconcile intercompany balances, and manage intercompany billing, including reading the underlying agreements to work out what should be billed

Revenue and receivables

  • Own revenue recognition across multiple billing platforms, reviewing billing data for correct treatment
  • Monitor receivables and prepare the impairment assessments, including at year end
  • Build the SOP for writing off uncollectible receivables and configure the billing platforms to apply it automatically

Payments

  • Run recurring payment processing for two to three entities: payment instructions and batches through online banking, vendor invoice review and upload, chasing missing approvals and banking details, and resolving whatever the bank throws back

Tax

  • Own corporate tax compliance across the group: computations, schedules, deadlines, and coordination with external advisors and tax authorities
  • Manage withholding tax, including DTAA treatment and annual Certificates of Residence across jurisdictions
  • Manage global VAT/GST compliance: monitor registration thresholds, coordinate new registrations and their setup in the billing platforms, and run recurring filings with Taxually
  • Manage US state sales tax: registrations and deregistrations as transactions migrate to the US entity, exemption certificates, franchise taxes and business licences, and the Loudoun County data centre property tax with the data centre team
  • Handle tax, VAT/GST and financial statement audits: schedules, supporting documentation, and responses to auditor and authority queries

Team and process

  • Supervise and review the work of our junior accountant
  • Advise internal teams, and give the Support team clear answers on accounting, VAT/GST and withholding tax questions raised by customers
  • Find and take the opportunities to improve finance processes, controls and efficiency, using automation and AI tooling where it helps
What you’ll need
  • 5+ years in accounting and financial reporting, across multiple entities and jurisdictions
  • A degree or professional qualification in accounting, finance or a related discipline
  • Group consolidation and intercompany experience
  • Corporate tax, withholding tax and VAT/GST compliance in more than one jurisdiction, and experience supporting audits by external auditors and tax authorities
  • SaaS revenue recognition and receivables, working across multiple billing platforms
  • Experience supervising junior accounting staff, and working with external tax providers such as Taxually, Avalara or TMF Group
  • Strong Excel and Xero
  • A genuine willingness to use AI and automation to make finance work better, not just faster to talk about
