Roles and Responsibilities:
Credit Research sits within Global Markets, helping the Bank’s clients and internal stakeholders stay one step ahead in credit market developments. As a credit research analyst within OCBC Research, you will be responsible for producing independent, high-quality fundamental credit research on a defined portfolio of issuers, while also generating sector-level insights and thematic reports to support the sales and trading strategies for the bank’s clients. The successful candidate will combine their analytical skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities to deliver actionable investment views and market commentary that enhance the bank’s client offering and internal decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fundamental Credit Research
Conduct in-depth fundamental and relative-value analysis on a defined list of corporate and/or financial services credits. Maintain credit assessments and financial models for assigned issuers. Provide timely and independent issuer-level and issue recommendations to both internal and external stakeholders, predominantly in USD but may also include select other currencies from time to time including SGD, EUR and AUD. Monitor current developments in macro-economic and credit markets to assess evolving risk profiles.
- Sector and Thematic Research
Generate sector outlooks and comparative analyses periodically and when necessary, highlighting key credit drivers, market trends, and relative-value opportunities. Author thematic research pieces on structural, regulatory, or macroeconomic trends impacting credit markets. Supported by the effective distribution of research through published reports, client calls, and presentations.
- Client Engagement
Participate in client marketing initiatives, issuer and investor meetings, and public conferences to represent the bank’s credit research capabilities. Communicate credit views effectively to clients and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and independence while building and maintaining strong relationships. Act as a spokesperson for the bank in relevant media outreach opportunities to build OCBC’s brand awareness across multiple platforms.
- Internal Advisory and Market Intelligence
Provide the bank’s key internal stakeholders (e.g., trading, sales, risk management, and strategy teams) with real-time views on credit market developments that may impact bank exposures, positioning, or corporate strategies. Collaborate closely with sales and investment teams to ensure consistency between research views and client engagement strategies or asset allocation portfolio positioning. Contribute to internal committees or discussions on credit strategy and market risks. Ensuring compliance with internal policies (in particular trading and conflict of interest) and MAS regulations as is relevant to research analysts.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in credit research, preferably within a sell-side, rating agency, or buy-side environment.
- Strong understanding of credit analysis, capital structures, and debt instruments across investment-grade and/or high-yield markets and multiple sectors.
- Strong familiarity with macroeconomic drivers of credit spreads and is curious and interested in investments and the financial markets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience in publishing timely and professional research that articulates his/her sound judgment and high-conviction, independent, investment theses. Solid writing skills and experience in writing for a wide audience under time-sensitive market conditions are important for this role.
- Familiarity and interest in sustainability topics as well as ESG-related bond frameworks and research is a plus as is familiarity with Bloomberg and programming skills.
- Bachelor’s degree required; CFA, CAIA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred but not a requirement.
