Job Description

This role is a key member of the Data Stewardship and Enforcements team responsible in advancing data stewardship and data governance communication initiatives. In this role, you will play a central role in driving the bank’s data governance maturity and fostering the adoption of governance practices across the organization, collaborate closely with Business and Support Units, as well as Technology teams, acting as the primary point of contact for data governance matters and helping to embed governance principles into everyday business and data operations.

Your main responsibilities are to:

  • Actively support the UOB Group-wide Data Governance strategy and the adoption of the data governance framework and policy, incorporating best practices and industry standards across different jurisdictions where the Bank operates
  • Actively contribute to the development and continuous evolution of the data governance processes and best practices in line with the Bank’s strategies and objectives, along with evolving industry practices
  • Lead in Bank-wide Key Risk and Control Self-Assessment initiatives to embed data governance practices into existing enterprise-wide policies and processes
  • Participate in the development of data standards incorporating industry best practices across data protection, privacy and controls
  • Coordinate DMO-wide audits, compliance reviews and inspections and participate in annual BCBS239 independent validation
  • Serve as a liaison between business units and technology to ensure data governance requirements are well understood and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning
  • Be an agent of change and inculcate data governance culture and discipline across the Bank’s business and technical processes

Job requirements:

  • Background of data governance, data quality, risk management, technology or business operations, with at least 8-10 years of working experience in the banking industry or equivalent, or consulting/auditing experience with strong exposure to Financial Services
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Data Governance discipline, especially in financial industry best practices and across the regulatory landscape
  • Good understanding of risk management frameworks and related disciplines such as risk and control self-assessment
  • Good understanding of data management related disciplines, such as data privacy, data protection, data quality, metadata and master data management
  • Experience of working with Big Data platforms and ETL tools is an advantage
  • Good project management and facilitation skills, with the ability to manage different stakeholders across the Bank and to navigate through conflicts with ease
  • Demonstrated good leadership and excellent team player who possesses drive, proactivity and curiosity
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written / oral communication skills and ability to translate ideas and strategies into actions
  • Good experience in developing guideline and procedure documentations, as well as presentation materials
