The Role

As a Technical Project Manager Lead, you sit within our Client Partnership team and own delivery leadership across our technical project portfolio. You are client-facing, delivery-led, and technically fluent — accountable for predictable delivery, strong scope control, calm execution, and continuous improvement of how our PM team operates.

This role blends:

• Delivery leadership - portfolio oversight + running critical projects
• PMO ownership - Standards, workflows, governance, tooling, training
• Technical solution scoping and estimation - working with the Technical lead to take a brief from feasible scope → costed estimate → delivery-ready plan

But there's a fourth dimension that makes this role different from a standard PM Lead: you'll be expected to systematise and automate PM operations using AI. We believe most PM overhead, like status reporting, health checks, approval chasing, estimation inputs, documentation, can and should be automated. We've prototyped this internally and proven the concept. Your job is to take that vision further: identify what should be systematised, design the approach, and make it happen.

You will manage and develop a team of 4–5 Project Managers, including coaching and performance reviews, while also directly leading priority engagements where senior delivery ownership is required.

What You’ll Own (Lead Scope)

1) Delivery Ownership (Portfolio + Critical Projects)

• Own delivery outcomes across the portfolio: quality, timelines, scope discipline, dependencies, risk management, and commercial health (burn, change control, and margin awareness)
• Run delivery governance (project health, resourcing, prioritisation, escalations) and intervene early when projects drift
• Lead client expectation-setting and delivery conversations — especially in high-stakes or complex engagements
• Personally lead a subset of critical projects end-to-end, acting as the senior delivery owner

2) PMO Ownership (Standards, Capability, Accountability)

• Own and evolve our PM operating system: methodology, templates/artefacts, workflows, reporting, and delivery rituals
• Drive consistent quality and compliance without unnecessary process, improving predictability and team speed
• Build PM capability through onboarding, coaching, training, and structured feedback
• Hold PMs accountable to delivery standards through clear expectations, regular reviews, and performance management

3) Scoping, Estimation & Commercial Shaping

• Own the end-to-end scoping process for incoming web and digital projects working closely with the Tech Lead from: brief analysis → template/page mapping → complexity assessment → cost estimates
• Translate client objectives into delivery-ready scope: requirements, acceptance criteria, assumptions, constraints, dependencies, risks, and implementation approach
• Apply commercial judgment — understand rate cards, package sizing, margin targets, and defining what  belongs in scope
• Ensure proposed solutions align with our capabilities, delivery constraints, and productised service packages
• Produce clean inputs for SOWs, FSDs, and specs that enable smooth execution downstream

4) AI & Automation of PM Operations

• Identify which PM activities are manual, repetitive, or low-judgment,  and drive their automation
• Build and improve AI-powered workflows for: project health monitoring, approval tracking, estimation support, documentation generation, risk identification, and reporting
• Work with our tech team and AI tools to prototype, test, and deploy these automations
• Continuously raise the bar on what's automated vs. what needs human judgment
• Champion a mindset shift across the PM team: We don't simply add AI to a broken process, but rather need to question whether a process should exist

This isn't about using ChatGPT to write emails faster. We expect you to fundamentally rethink how a PM function operates when AI handles the routine, so humans can focus on judgment, relationships, and problem-solving.

What You'll Deliver On

Projects commonly include:

• CMS (WordPress, Sitefinity) website builds, migrations, and rebuilds
• Web applications, integrations, and APIs
• Martech implementations (CRM, analytics, automation platforms)
• Content production pipelines with technical and data dependencies
• Multi-vendor or partner-led delivery where required

We're actively moving from predominantly custom project delivery toward productised, repeatable service packages, fixed scope, fixed price, systematised delivery. You'll play a key role in driving that shift on the delivery side: standardising project types, building reusable playbooks, and reducing the "every project is bespoke" pattern.

You’ll work closely with strategists, UX specialists, developers, data specialists, and external partners, but you will own delivery coherence.

We don't list AI tools to look modern. We use them as core infrastructure for delivery operations,  and expect you to push that further. But AI Tools don’t replace judgment, they amplify it.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years experience in technical/digital project management, with senior ownership of complex deliveries in an agency or consultancy environment
• Experience delivering full-lifecycle digital projects (web/app/CMS/integrations) with strong QA and launch discipline
• Demonstrated ability to lead a PM function: coaching, standards, governance, and performance reviews
• Strong understanding of modern web builds, CMS platforms, integrations, and QA practices
• Comfortable owning BA-style responsibilities (requirements, specs, acceptance criteria), especially during shaping
• Genuine AI fluency - not just "I use ChatGPT." You should be able to look at a manual workflow and articulate how to automate it, what tools to use, and what still needs human judgment
• Confident using structured PM tools (e.g., Asana) without becoming process-bound
• Clear, structured communicator in client and internal settings; strong at expectation-setting and escalation handling
• High bar for delivery quality, with calm, systematic execution under pressure
• Curious, self-driven, and motivated to continuously improve how work gets done
