Position Summary:                    

Has wide-ranging experience, able to apply specialist knowledge and experience to resolve more complex / novel issues in creative and effective ways. May champion significant projects, programs and business initiatives. Applies knowledge cross functionally. Works on complex supply chain challenges where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Delivers objectives where tactics need to be defined and where there is a level of change or uncertainty of outcomes. Able to make proposals / recommend business improvements that impact own and other work areas.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support Transfer product and New Product Introduction projects
  • Create and monitor a procurement plan to reduce risk and ensure timely delivery for project deliverables
  • Work with sourcing and tactical team on supplier identification and selection. Understand vendor’s capabilities through the Preferred vendor list or Approved vendor list
  • Tender quotations, plans negotiation strategies and conducts negotiations
  • Purchase goods as required for all phases of product development and transfer product
  • Identifies and resolves various supplier management issues of high complexity
  • Manage the supplier capacity to ensure they are ready for ramp to production
  • Maintain a summary of orders and delivery dates to ensure part level management and accurate information is available to the project team
  • Work closely with project team members such as Project Managers, designers, etc. to proactively plan and manage long lead time components and initiative risk buys to meet project dates to enable faster time to market of new designs
  • Ensure the timely supply of all parts to support new product developments builds and transfer product
  • Understands the major features and industry trends of key category areas, key players in the market and how trends could impact the product/service to be purchased and applies knowledge to inform the business
  • Develops, amends and executes mid-value contracts / CDAs for on market Direct and Indirect materials. Contracts may include some nonstandard clauses which requires the ability to incorporate specific business needs and metrics into a standard contract template
  • Works with a broad range of suppliers, evaluates critical / high value supplier relationships and establishes appropriate governance processes to manage risk and opportunity and ensure alignment with Illumina goals
  • Incorporates business priorities into Supplier strategies
  • Understands financial impacts on decisions made in area of responsibility e.g. lead time changes, safety stock changes
  • Understands how to leverage master data, interpret signals from MRP, and effectively using different PO management vehicles (i.e. schedule agreement vs. discrete PO) to align the cadence between the supply base and the organization
  • Collaborates cross functionally on system issues relating to SAP and/or Ariba

Position Requirements:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to understand industry financial / commodity trends and leverage these to improve Illumina supply chain e.g. oil prices, exchange rates
  • Able to effectively communicate technical Sourcing concepts to customers
  • Good knowledge of managing NPI project and purchase
  • Support or leads cross functional project teams to deliver business goals
  • Able to effectively represent Sourcing on cross-functional teams
  • Able to coach and guide others within work area
  • Able to apply knowledge to inform business strategies and supplier selection
  • Able to identify opportunities for system / process improvement and implements solutions
  • Influences non-critical processes within immediate work area
  • Able to provide process compliance oversight and recommend improvements
  • Listens and adapts plans in the face of new information
  • Able to Lead and Mentor Peers and Junior Team Members
  • Guides team member performance to effectively deliver project / activities
  • Well-versed at using SAP purchasing and MM modules
