A leading global life insurer with market leading high networth and other insurance solutions in Singapore is seeking a highly skilled senior legal counsel to join our dynamic legal team. This is a key role in our organization that functions as the primary subject matter expert on legal matters for Products, Reinsurance, Human Resource and Procurement business partners. This role requires active and effective management of stakeholder relationships, both internal and external. Deep understanding of insurance law and regulations, as well as excellent analytical and negotiation skills are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive legal advisory services related to reinsurance agreements and initiatives.
  • Review, draft and negotiate reinsurance contracts, coordinating with regional counsel as needed.
  • Collaborate with product development teams to review policy contracts, schedule pages and other product collaterals.
  • Ensure legal compliance and support the development of innovative product solutions.
  • Representing Legal at working committees on Products.
  • Offer legal guidance on, and drafting and review of procurement agreements.
  • Advise on employment law matters, including union rights and employment terms.
  • Review and draft employment contracts and related documentation.
  • Working closely with compliance team on issues with regulatory development to offer holistic and consolidated L&C position.
  • Staying abreast of changes to the legal and regulatory landscape through industry interactions, external seminars, MAS and LIA updates and law firm publications.
  • Actively deliberating and advising on legal and regulatory updates that impacts business.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior legal team members.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a training and succession plan within the legal team.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the legal team.
  • Foster a collaborative and high performance team environment.

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 8-12 PQE in in-house legal counsel roles with leading life insurance companies or leading financial institutions specialising in bancassurance legal work; or as a corporate commercial lawyer in top financial markets law firms with a focus on insurance related work.
  • Law degree from a reputable law school.
  • Singapore qualified lawyer.
  • Working knowledge of MAS regulations and guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Good working attitude, team player and able to work well under pressure
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in mentoring and developing junior team members
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong negotiation, drafting and analytical skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • A self-starter who is independent and able to take the initiative
  • High responsibility, diligence, integrity and professional ethics
