The Senior Equity Analyst will analyze regional banks and Japanese trading houses, build valuation models, publish research reports, and mentor junior analysts.
The Group:
Morningstar's Research group provides independent analysis on individual securities, funds, markets, and portfolios. The Research group also provides data on hundreds of thousands of investment offerings, including stocks, mutual funds, and similar vehicles, along with real-time global market data on millions of equities, indexes, futures, options, commodities, and precious metals, in addition to foreign exchange and Treasury markets. The Role:
Our equities research group requires an experienced analyst to cover regional banks and Japan's trading houses. The priority stock coverage includes Mitsubishi UFJ and Itochu, for example. Performing fundamental analysis within our well-defined research framework, the role holder will write research reports and determine fair values on a select group of stocks. They will also be accountable for pitching investment ideas internally and externally in accordance with Morningstar's investment methodology. This position is based in our Singapore office. In addition, the person should be able to work independently and have had some prior management experience so as to be comfortable supervising or mentoring other analysts.
Responsibilities:
Ø Research, analyze and determine equity fair values on 15 Japanese banks and industrials or real estate firms. These include Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Nomura Holdings and possibly Sumitomo Realty & Development Co or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Ø Build valuation models on coverage companies, focusing on key business drivers and scenario analysis.
Ø Regularly publish reports and in-depth research pieces on coverage companies and industries.
Ø Develop relationships with coverage companies and industry participants to enhance research and build brand.
Ø Show a constant interest in pushing Morningstar's research methodology and business forward.
Ø Proactively surface attractive investment ideas internally and externally to support all products and clients.
Ø Network with Morningstar global sector teams regarding content, methodology, product, workflow, etc.
Ø Have strong self-motivation and not require micro-management to complete tasks.
Ø Act with independence and investors first attitude at all times.
Requirements:
Ø Possess independence, critical thinking skills, and a passion for investing.
Ø Communicate-well in English written and orally internally and externally.
Ø Have a bias toward long-term fundamental research and investing.
Ø Work well within a team and be capable of respectfully accepting and providing constructive feedback.
Ø Make timely decisions under demanding deadlines, sometimes with incomplete information.
Ø Interest in developing financial modeling skills together with knowledge of business valuation techniques.
Ø Minimum of bachelor's degree.
Ø Graduate degree or CFA designation preferred.
Ø More than 10 years of experience gained in an equity analyst position.
Ø Fluency in English mandatory, knowledge of Japanese preferred.
