Are you the kind of content person who lives to convert? Are you a tech-forward marketer who believes that good design is nothing without clear, succinct writing to match? Are you determined to master new techniques and technologies, without letting them master you? Then we’ve got just the place for you. As a Content Strategist with a focus on sales funnels and new product launches, you will be a key driver leading ExpressVPN to new heights. And with a website that already draws over 20 million unique visitors a month, and apps used by millions of people, your words will find an audience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set (and hit) ambitious goals: You’ll need to understand the success metrics, monitor progress, and motivate your colleagues, making sure everyone understands how they can contribute.
  • Identify gaps and glitches in the user experience: In a highly competitive industry, you’ll need to take input from all directions and iterate on what’s successful, while discarding what isn’t. You’ll take your cues from AB tests, from our product team and engineers, from customer requests and reviews, from affiliate partners, from competitor sites, and from your own deep understanding of the marketplace and the customer. You’ll decide the most productive paths forward and how to prioritize.
  • Know the use cases: You will understand, better than anyone, exactly what our product is good for, how customers use it, and how it works, including its interactions with devices and services all around the world.
  • Write, edit, and publish: A skilled wordsmith who knows how to use a style guide and content management systems, you should be comfortable being the “last eyes” on copy before it goes live, whether it’s text in an app interface, a headline on a major landing page, the subject line of an email, or the fine print on the order page.
  • Protect our customers and our company: Ensure our content is accurate, high-quality, and meets all business requirements, from regulatory compliance to brand voice.
  • Embrace new technologies and ways of working: Keep abreast of developments in content marketing, creation, and management. Be eager to learn new tools and foster their use within your team. Be innovative, but don’t force square pegs into round holes.
  • Self and team development: You should provide your best, and strive to improve yourself along the way. Be able and eager to share what you know with those around you, whether they’re your junior or a senior executive.
  • For candidates with the necessary experience and desire, direct people management duties may be considered. Potential managers should know how to get the best from people, and understand how their personal growth fits into the company’s future.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years, but ideally 5 or more, in writing for sales, marketing, or UX.
  • Although not all these skills are required, you should have direct experience in at least some of the following:
    • UX writing for apps and websites
    • Writing customer emails, in-app messages, push notifications, and other CRM copy
    • Developing go-to-market strategies and providing the written assets needed for them
    • Writing for conversions, including testing hypotheses with formal AB testing tools
    • ASO writing and optimizing the onboarding process for mobile apps
    • Traditional content marketing, where you create articles within and adjacent to a given product vertical on a regular cadence, strategizing how best to attract attention specifically from people who might be interested in your product. Typical verticals include travel, gadgets, parenting, e-commerce, etc.
  • Data proficiency. Be able to analyze multiple stats and make informed decisions based on what the numbers tell you.
  • Leadership and communication. You’ll need to work (and inspire) across time zones, write succinct and successful briefs, persuade competing stakeholders, answer questions directly, and report on progress.
  • Industry passion. Believe in online privacy, security, and freedom, and expect to be a positive change in the digital world.
