Job DescriptionThe Senior Accountant supports the Market Unit Controller in the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting for one or more legal entities. The role focuses on assisting with general ledger activities, reconciliation support, financial analysis, and coordination with the Centre of Excellence (CoE). The Senior Accountant contributes to ensuring high-quality outputs throughout the month-end close process and plays a key role in embedding global processes at a local level. This position requires working on the U.S. shift to align with the Americas time zone.
Key Responsibilities
- Support for Month-End Close
- Assist with preparation of monthly journal entries, accruals, and prepayments.
- Support the Market Unit Controller in managing close activities in accordance with the global timetable.
- Help ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records for the assigned market unit.
- Reconciliation Coordination (Support Role Only)
- Provide source documents, local explanations, or business context required by the CoE to complete reconciliations.
- Follow up on reconciling items raised by the CoE or Market Unit Controller with relevant stakeholders (e.g., tax, HR, operations).
- Ensure reconciliation outputs from the CoE are complete and logged for review.
- Financial Reporting Assistance
- Assist with the preparation of local reporting packs, commentary templates, or cost centre reviews.
- Consolidate inputs or explanations for income statement variances or one-off adjustments.
- Provide administrative support for statutory or internal audit processes as required.
- Local Liaison & Coordination
- Act as the day-to-day point of contact between the Market Unit Controller and local stakeholders such as HR, Legal, and Commercial.
- Coordinate responses to queries from the R2R CoE, Group Accounting, or auditors.
- Maintain organised documentation and audit-ready records for assigned tasks.
- Process Improvement & Documentation
- Support process mapping or documentation of local R2R activities.
- Propose improvements to standard work routines or task tracking where inefficiencies exist.
- Participate in standardisation efforts aligned with the global R2R framework.
- Fully qualified ACA, ACCA, ACMA/CGMA, or equivalent professional qualification.
- 2+ years post qualified experience in general ledger accounting or financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS; exposure to Canadian GAAP/ASPE is an advantage.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, IFS Cloud preferred).
- Excellent written and spoken English; prior experience in global finance operations or North America shift is a plus.
