Job Description

We’re looking for a Sanctions Compliance Officer who will serve as the sanctions subject matter expert responsible for overseeing the process of investigating and reporting potential violations of Japan and other sanctions programs processed through Wise. This includes but not limited to: escalated alerts on transactions and matches to Botsui, MOF, and METI, as well as, OFAC, E.U., UK and any other applicable lists and programs; reporting of blocked property and rejected transactions to the respective regulatory agencies; investigation into potential circumvention attempts;.

The Sanctions Compliance Officer will also be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the risk management framework in coordination with the Team lead; by assessing the sanctions risks, implementing controls, developing policies/manuals and advising relevant stakeholders on sanctions related issues and incidents where necessary.

Your Mission:

  • Monitor and improve procedures and manuals regarding Japan sanction related operators to facilitate governance over sanctions lists/screening framework
  • Provide advice and subject matter expertise on sanctions related issues, acting as a point of escalation for teams within Wise
  • Identify sanctions compliance issues and make suggestions and/or take corrective action to implement solutions to improve controls
  • Prepare reports for internal reporting on the status of Japan sanction controls
  • Assist in the review of sanctions related regulatory examination and internal audit deliverables
  • Support and provide guidance and training to the Japan sanctions analysts and relevant stakeholders

Qualifications

Must Have:

  • 2 years of sanctions experience
  • Proficient in reading and writing Japanese (Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji)
  • Strong knowledge of Japan Sanction regulations and OFAC, UK, and EU sanctions regulations

Additional Criteria:

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of SWIFT payments, trade finance, and cross-border payments
  • Ability to persevere in a fast-paced environment
