Purpose

Chubb is seeking an experienced Engineer to provide professional engineering advice to our Renewable Energy underwriting team in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, with the aim of improving underwriting profitability and assisting in portfolio development and new business opportunities. This role involves collaboration with underwriters as well as interaction with clients and brokers. 

The primary responsibility is to provide timely, succinct and technically advanced engineering advice to underwriters with regard to technical risks of Construction and Operational Phase of Renewable Energy Power Plants in compliance with CHUBB processes and best practices.

 

Responsibilities

In this role, effective and objective communication is essential for providing risk management advice based on thorough evaluations of risk exposures and loss estimates for the renewable energy sector (Solar, Wind, BESS, etc). Key responsibilities include

  • Develop DeskTop Reviews (providing technical input into risk assessment, evaluating submission information including reports provided by brokers and other third parties and completing engineering reviews) for Renewable Energy sector for both construction and operational phase in the APAC region, ensuring adherence to CHUBB best practices. 
  • Collaborate with regional engineers to conduct peer reviews
  • Conduct site visits and risk surveys of client’s projects and premises, including input into broker reports and risk improvement recommendations including ensuring accuracy and completeness.

  • Develop and manage technology databases for renewable energy occupancies to track proven/unproven technology. 
  • Identify internal and external data sources that enable qualifying and quantifying critical risk factors on renewable energy occupancies.
  • Continuously enhance engineering knowledge and resources within areas of expertise to stay current with industry practices and standards.
  • Develop and improve communication effectiveness and manage relationships with clients, brokers, and the insurance market, to maintain CHUBB’s credibility as a leading professional and ethical insurer.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team and streamline workflow management processes
  • Develop ongoing learning and development curriculum for underwriters, claims and risk engineering colleagues across APAC.
  • Keep informed of Renewable Energy sector developments including technological developments, regulatory and policy changes, investment and challenges and produce communications to share with stakeholders across APAC. 
Qualifications
  • A qualified engineer, preferably holding a degree in Mechanical/Chemical/ Electrical Engineering 
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience across key range of engineering activities; construction and operation of onshore wind, solar, battery energy storage systems, power transmission and distribution.
  • Experience should include design, construction and management gained from a broad spectrum of technologies and projects
  • Extensive knowledge of the Renewable Energy sectors with a desire for continuous learning Practical and results driven with ability to make own decisions, manage and prioritize workload according to needs of the business, and work on own initiative.
  • An experienced professional; clear and confident communicator with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to facilitate effective interactions with clients, brokers, and stakeholders.
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaborating effectively as part of a team.
  • Enthusiasm for facing new challenges, particularly in engagements with large multinational clients
  • A team player with flexible, communicative, and personable approach to work.
  • A keen interest in engineering subjects, with an appreciation for the business environment and ethical considerations
  • Proficiency in English is essential; knowledge of additional languages is beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel across APAC regions.
