With a particular focus on ramping up the capacity of responsibly sourced coffee and the support to small holder farmers through Stronger Coffee Initiative, LDC plays an active role in making coffee production more sustainable and ensuring compliance with emerging regulations.
Job Description
Strategic Leadership:
- Lead the development and implementation of the respective country strategies, aligned with global goals.
- Communicate and promote the coffee sustainability strategy internally and externally, to key regional and global managers and partners.
- Follow regional trends and developments to ensure that the strategy remains relevant and adequate. Adjust where required.
- Participate in global platform meetings to bring the regional perspective forward.
Team Management and Development:
- Structure and empower regional and national sustainability colleagues to operate independently while ensuring alignment with overall strategy.
- Identify and develop key talents within the team, fostering growth opportunities aligned with regional needs.
- Organize calls and meetings among sustainability national Teams to share experience, promote cross-country learning, review strategies, share experiences, and align with other functions.
- Ensure cross-team collaboration with research, commercial, and communication teams.
Program Management and Compliance:
- Ensure all LDC-managed Responsibly Sourced (RS) coffee supply chains meet their compliance standard, in addition to LDC’s own compliance standards (Non-deforestation commitment), as well as EUDR, CSRDDD, child labor laws, and other HRDD obligations.
- Oversee risk assessments updates and prevention/mitigation strategies to align with above compliance standards and other global frameworks.
- Together with the Asia Regional Stronger Coffee Initiative Manager, guide teams in successfully implementing SCI (Stronger Coffee Initiative) projects and deliver low-carbon coffee.
Data and Impact Measurement:
- Together with the Regional Sustainability Data Coordinator based in Bangalore, and the Data Sustainability Manager in Lyon, oversee the collection, harmonization, and storage of data, including farm polygons and traceability metrics, ensuring alignment with global frameworks.
- Monitor the impact of sustainability programs, such as certification and responsible sourcing, and report findings to relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of dashboards and tools for real-time monitoring and evaluation to create a feedback loop with the global strategy.
Budget and Operational Oversight:
- Develop and manage budgets for sustainability initiatives in the region, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and alignment with financial targets.
- Together with regional controllers, track expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and report financial progress regularly.
- Support the commercial team in achieving sourcing targets and expanding sustainability practices across origins.
Stakeholder Engagement and Fundraising:
- Build and maintain relationships with donors, clients, and partners to support sustainability initiatives in the region.
- Lead fundraising efforts in Asia, identifying opportunities to secure additional investments for SCI and other programs.
- Collaborate with regional communication teams to develop narratives and materials showcasing on-ground projects.
- Participate in regional conferences and forums to promote LDC’s sustainability initiatives and build external visibility for our work.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
Additional Information

Minimum 5 years of experience in sustainability, preferably in agriculture or the coffee industry in Asia.

Proven leadership and team management skills.

In depth knowledge of small-holder farming context in one of LDC’s three origins in the region, in particular Vietnam.

Experience in budgeting, financial management, and reporting.

Familiarity with carbon initiatives, RegenAg, or deforestation verification is a plus.

Strong analytical skills with expertise in data-driven decision-making and tools like Power BI.

Knowledge of certifications, supply chain standards, and regulatory compliance (e.g., EUDR).

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English.
