As a global leader in cybersecurity, CrowdStrike protects the people, processes and technologies that drive modern organizations. Since 2011, our mission hasn’t changed — we’re here to stop breaches, and we’ve redefined modern security with the world’s most advanced AI-native platform. We work on large scale distributed systems, processing almost 3 trillion events per day and this traffic is growing daily. Our customers span all industries, and they count on CrowdStrike to keep their businesses running, their communities safe and their lives moving forward. We’re also a mission-driven company. We cultivate a culture that gives every CrowdStriker both the flexibility and autonomy to own their careers. We’re always looking to add talented CrowdStrikers to the team who have limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to our customers, our community and each other. Ready to join a mission that matters? The future of cybersecurity starts with you.

About the Role:

We’re building a welcoming & flexible team that prizes collaboration over competition, one which provides opportunities to learn new skills, mentor junior and senior developers and contribute to the direction of both the team & the products for which we’re responsible. This is a high trust environment where we allow team members to manage their own time, take holidays as they need it and reward them with competitive salaries and equity.

CrowdStrike is seeking a Principal Engineer for our Policy Management team. As a key technical leader in our organization, you will help drive architectural decisions, technical excellence, and innovation for the Policy team. The team is responsible for the cloud-side software and user interfaces that provide configuration and settings information to the Falcon endpoint agent and other products within the Falcon platform. Nearly every module of the Falcon platform offers customer-manageable configuration options, and changes to these options are distributed to the endpoint fleet within minutes. You’ll be thinking about how to build and extend high-quality systems that scale cleanly and reliably, and then realizing those ideas in code. The Policy Management team is involved across the entire product line and you’ll get to work closely with other groups across the company.

CrowdStrike is a computer security company, but we do not require candidates for this role to have prior security industry experience.  We will mentor and train in security topics as needed. We do expect a strong interest in CrowdStrike's mission and a willingness to engage with the needs of our product teams and customers.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for the Policy Management team, driving end-to-end technical strategy, building technology roadmaps, mentoring engineers, and ensuring successful project delivery.

  • Build and evolve cloud-based systems to flawlessly manage and distribute configuration information to a fleet of millions of endpoints, collaborating with other cloud, front-end, and endpoint developers.

  • Brainstorm, design, and build collaboratively across multiple teams.

  • Build elegant and performant solutions for complex technical problems across our tech stack.

  • Read and critique code and pull requests in the multiple programming languages in use in our environment (including Go, Python, Unix shell, Typescript, C++, among others), and provide technical guidance and feedback to team members.

  • Focus on continual learning, raising the bar for both yourself and your teammates.

  • Leverage your understanding of engineering best practices, including topics like appropriate testing paradigms, effective peer code reviews, logging, and resilient architecture patterns, to ensure that our code is clean and our deployments are straightforward.

  • Be an energetic ‘self-starter’ with the ability to take ownership and be accountable for deliverables, both individually and when leading a team.

  • Deliver and accept feedback with grace and courtesy.

  • Collaborate on determining root causes of production outages and adding quality improvements to prevent outages in the future.

  • Occasionally travel for in-person meetings. Crowdstrike is a remote-friendly company, but we do get together from time to time. Expect to travel 1-3 times per year.

What You'll Need:

  • A computer science background or equivalent experience (programming styles, data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, etc.)

  • 7+ years of experience building and scaling complex, low-latency cloud-based back-end systems in production.

  • Technical leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to mentor, influence and guide engineering teams

  • Deep understanding of distributed systems and scalability challenges.

  • Experience with Golang, Python, Kubernetes, Cassandra, Redis, Kafka, Elastic Search, and/or similar technologies. You don’t need all of these, but you need some.

  • Prior experience with cloud services, such as AWS or GCP, particularly compute and storage offerings.

  • Experience developing and deploying into Linux containers.

  • Both a sense of humor and a sense of humility

Bonus Points:

  • Prior experience managing configuration automation for large endpoint fleets (for example, Microsoft Configuration Manager, JAMF Pro, ChromeOS device management)

  • Exposure to/experience with cybersecurity and intelligence.
