About Doodle Labs
Doodle Labs builds the connectivity backbone of the autonomous systems revolution — resilient wireless mesh networks that let drones, robots, and unmanned platforms operate reliably in the world's most demanding environments. We sit at the intersection of defense, robotics, and next-generation autonomy, powering the machines that are changing how militaries, first responders, and industries operate in the field. Our core purpose is simple: connect anyone and anything, at any time, in any place.
For over 25 years, our team has been at the forefront of mesh networking, partnering with leading defense programs, robotics manufacturers, and system integrators worldwide. The work here doesn't sit in a slide deck — it ends up in the field, in the hands of people for whom failure isn't an option.
About the Job
The MQE Product Engineer is the product quality specialist within the MQE team. Reporting to the MQE Manager, you will work alongside the Process Engineer and Test Engineer to support the Contract Manufacturing (CM) Manager in improving the manufacturing quality of our products.
While the Process Engineer improves how products are built and the Test Engineer maintains the test systems, the Product Engineer safeguards the product itself – its quality acceptance, defect disposition through the Material Review Board (MRB), production automation, cost of quality, and full traceability from incoming material to finished goods.
In close support of the CM Manager at our contract manufacturer in Batam, Indonesia, this role turns quality data into action: dispositioning non-conforming product, driving defect reduction with the Process and Test Engineers, and building the automation and tracking systems that make product quality visible and controllable.
What You'll Do
1. Support the CM Manager on Product Manufacturing Quality Engineering
- Coordinate with the CM Manager, providing supporting Production Engineering related task.
- Define product acceptance criteria, Production quality specifications for each radio model.
- Monitor product-level quality metrics – SMT defect rate (PPM), MI/functional pass yield, and outgoing quality (OQC/ORT) – and escalate risks to the MQE Manager and CM Manager.
- Supporting and reviewing Product transferring from design completion to Operation, engineering changes (ECN/ECO), and alternate parts.
2. Support the Material Review Board (MRB) Process
- Serve as the Doodle Labs technical representative on the MRB at the contract manufacturer.
- Disposition non-conforming material and products – use-as-is, rework, repair, scrap, or return-to-vendor (RTV) – with documented engineering justification.
- Lead containment and purge actions for suspect lots and verify rework effectiveness before release.
- Maintain MRB records and disposition turnaround time (TAT) metrics, and drive supplier corrective actions (SCAR) for material-related defects.
3. Reduce Production Defects with the MQE Team
- Lead product-level root-cause analysis for production defects and customer returns using 8D, 5-Why, and fishbone methodologies.
- Partner with the Process Engineer on process-related corrective actions and with the Test Engineer on test escape and test coverage gaps.
- Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to closure with verified effectiveness, and feed lessons learned into design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-test (DFT) reviews.
- Analyze test yield data with the Test Engineer to identify top failure modes and prioritize defect reduction projects.
4. Manage Cost of Quality (CoQ)
- Establish and track Cost of Quality: scrap, rework, retest, MRB holding, warranty returns, and inspection costs.
- Prioritize improvement projects by CoQ impact and report monthly savings to the MQE Manager and CM Manager.
- Reduce rework loops and material waste through poka-yoke and upstream defect prevention with the Process Engineer.
5. Establish Production Tracking from Material to Finished Goods
- Implement end-to-end traceability: incoming material lots → PCBA serial numbers → sub-assembly → finished goods → shipment.
- Define serialisation, labelling, and barcode/QR scanning requirements at each production stage with the contract manufacturer.
- Build WIP tracking visibility so any unit can be located and its build history, test results, and material lots retrieved on demand.
- Enable rapid lot isolation for quality alerts, recalls, and engineering change cut-in tracking.
6. Deliver Key Milestones
- First Month: Complete product quality baseline for one high-volume model – defect Pareto, test yield, CoQ snapshot, and traceability gaps – documented in English and reviewed with the MQE Manager and CM Manager.
- First Three Months: Collaborate with CM manager to Stand up a functioning MRB cadence with disposition Turn Around Time (TAT) tracking; propose the material-to-FG production tracking plan and first automation project with ROI.
- First Six Months: Deliver serial-number-level traceability for at least one product line.
Who You Are
- Proven experience in product engineering, manufacturing quality engineering, or a related role for electronic products, preferably with contract manufacturers.
- Experience supporting or leading MRB: non-conforming material disposition, containment, rework verification, and supplier corrective actions (SCAR).
- Skilled in structured problem-solving: 8D, CAPA, 5-Why, and fishbone analysis.
- Exposure to production automation for electronics: automated data capture, vision/AOI data utilisation, barcode/RFID scanning, or MES integration.
- Experience implementing traceability or production tracking systems (MES, ERP shop-floor modules, or serial number tracking) from material to finished goods.
- Experience establishing quality metrics (PPM, FPY, yield) and Cost of Quality tracking.
- Strong analytical skills with data-driven decision-making; comfortable with Excel-based analysis, dashboards, and workflow automation tools.
- A team player who thrives in a matrixed setup – reporting to an MQE Manager while supporting a CM Manager and collaborating daily with Process and Test Engineers.
- Knowledge of radio or RF product manufacturing and IPC-A-610 acceptance criteria is a strong advantage.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years in product engineering, manufacturing quality, or a related engineering role for electronic products.
- Language: Proficient in English (written and spoken); Bahasa Indonesia is an advantage for on-site collaboration in Batam.
