Job Description
This is a unique opportunity to serve in a hybrid role within Citadel's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) division*, evenly spilt across Citadel's Business Controls and Operational Risk. This role will serve as ERM's lead within APAC. The role will require the candidate to be able to work independently, collaborate with other stakeholders both regionally and globally. ERM's mandate requires this role enhance risk management practices while identifying and driving tangible value to mitigate firm risk.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who has demonstrated the ability to function independently in a fast-paced, dynamic, and demanding environment. This person needs to be able to resolve conflict efficiently and effectively, to be intellectually curious, intuitive, trustworthy, and have the highest ethical standards, and be effective at addressing internal and external audiences in a professional manner. This person will add value by working on multiple tasks with minimal supervision and exemplary follow-through. Ideally, the candidate will also have experience dealing with regulators on risk management topics.
Risk Specialist Role Overview
The ERM Manager will provide regional coverage for the Citadel's Business Controls team and Operational Risk teams. The role will focus on assessing the suitability of pre and post-trade controls, identifying control enhancements and delivering functional change to improve both the efficiency and efficacy of trading controls. Daily responsibilities include oversight of Market Access Controls, liaising with COO teams, trading teams and engineers to investigate and resolve real-time trading control related alerts and queries. This role will also concentrate on facilitating the central coordination of new activity workflow within the region, ensuring that all functions conduct appropriate reviews and establish the necessary setup for new trading requests, and coordinating reviews of broker controls and the firm's trader access reviews. The ERM Manager will also be responsible for the Operational Risk strategy for the APAC region. Project-based work will include working with stakeholders to identify and assess key risks and controls for existing and new business activities and oversee business continuity planning and testing for the region.
Business Controls Duties and Responsibilities:
-Review trading systems and workflows to identify control weaknesses and develop appropriate enhancements, including automating manual processes
-Establish control standards and methods to measure effectiveness of controls (e.g., surveillance) in coordination with Trading Heads and COOs
-Work with business COO teams to regularly review the calibration of pre and post-trade controls
-Define and implement effective metrics for KRI measurements and reporting
-Investigate and resolve real-time trading control related alerts and queries efficiently
-Deliver regular management reporting for leadership highlighting key metrics and risk themes
Operational & Resiliency Risk Duties and Responsibilities:
-Support Operational Risk team members in equivalent business as usual activities in EMEA and US (follow the sun model), including e.g., resiliency testing, business continuity planning, risk and control assessments, and performing risk-based control testing
-Assist in the management and maintenance of operational risk and control frameworks to ensure the organization is meeting all regional legal and regulatory requirements
-Prepare periodic region specific reporting and analysis of key operational and resiliency risk relevant data points including but not limited to:
o Operational Risks
o Business and Technology resiliency levels
o Key Risk Indicators
-Guide business and functional areas on identification and evaluation of operational risks and associated controls
-Serve as a key point of contact with the business in relation to Enterprise Risk queries, and to the internal and external Audit teams
-Develop / deliver periodic training to support the implementation of a risk-aware culture, and embed operational risk standards across the organization
Required Skills
-At least 10 years of professional experience in either a 1st or 2nd line Business/Trading Controls or Risk Management function
-Strong working knowledge of financial markets with a detailed understanding of market structure in Equity and/or Commodities markets
-Proven ability to drive operational change involving trading, technology, and compliance groups
-Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
-Strong understanding of the trade lifecycle and associated operational and resiliency risks
-Bachelor's Degree or advanced degree in a STEM field or in Finance
-Experience in statistics and data analysis is a plus
-Programming skills and knowledge of Python and kdb/q is a plus
