Malware Communications Analysis (Internship Project)
Be an Early Applicant
Undergraduate internship analyzing open-source malware communications in a safe sandbox. Responsibilities include studying malicious communication protocols and techniques, recommending detection strategies, developing proof-of-concept detections where applicable, and improving malware analysis tools and processes.
Duration: 2 - 4 Months
Internship Type: Undergraduate, Pre-University
The cybersecurity industry is an arms race, with security products and malware fighting each other. There are many open-source malware implementations which provide examples of the huge variety of malware communications protocols. This project aims to add to the defenders’ arsenal of capabilities by investigating open-source malware implementations and devising ways to detect the communications activities of these malware.
Scope & Deliverables
- Setting up a safe sandbox to analyse malware.
- Explore and study open-source malicious communications and techniques.
- Recommend strategies for detecting such malicious communications and techniques. Where applicable, develop a proof-of-concept for such detections.
- Where applicable, develop tools, processes and recommendations to improve analysis work.
Prerequisites/Skills Required
- Aptitude for problem-solving
- Versatility and creativity
- Self-motivated and independent worker
- Experience with programming/scripting in one of the following areas is preferred: Python, Network Communications, Cyber Security
